It’s February 13th  and you still have no plans for Valentine’s Day- no doting boyfriend waiting with flowers, or even that casual hook up of yours offering to come over. Things are beginning to look desperate, so what’s a girl to do?

As the hit TV show How I Met Your Mother coined it, ‘Desperation Day’, occurs every 13th of February. This is allegedly the day when girls’ standards drop due to their desperate desire to avoid waking up alone on Valentine’s Day. The Urban Dictionary states that the “13th of February is in fact the easiest day of the entire year to score”.

So what is a girl to do on February the 13th, sit at home and cry? Of course not, they should go out and celebrate being single. In fact for the ladies of Exeter, Desperation Day occurs on the same day as Rugby Varsity, which can only mean one thing: a very messy TP. Timepiece has long been known as one of the easiest places to pull in Exeter, in fact is actually the third easiest place in the United Kingdom to bag yourself a willing man or lady. With the 13th falling on a Wednesday accompanied by the fact there are bound to be some eligible bachelors donning their ones, V-day might not prove to be as lonesome as first thought.

Head to the top,top floor of Timepiece and you will automatically be surrounded by boys aplenty-most being of the sporty type. The one advantage/disadvantage of the top, top floor is the fact that one can barely move, however this makes it far easier to bump into someone.   The art of casually bumping into someone takes no practice, so give it a go! The boys will no doubt be happy to see your lovely face and it could be the start of a great night for you.

However if you wish to take things one step further- head to the ledge. Be warned, this is not an easy task as the hockey boys mark it as their territory. If you do make it to the ledge, it will give you a birds eye view of the boys and also make you centre of attention within that group. There is no need to have any inhibitions in TP, most boys can’t dance anyway so who cares what you look like! Confidence is in fact one of the first attributes most boys look for in girls so work it like BeyoncĂ©.

Now Her Campus is not saying you should yield to your feelings of loneliness and drop your standards, just to avoid being single on Valentine’s Day. However, there is nothing wrong with having a bit of safe fun, and if you understand what you are getting yourself into, there is no reason you shouldn’t have a ‘Desperation Day’ (and night) to remember!
