Christmas Gift Guide: Presents for the Fashionista

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

Initially, you might think that buying for a fashion lover will be a piece of cake. The optimist in you immediately jumps to the conclusion: I’ll just get her a nice top! However, the more you think, more complications seem to pop up. Their incredibly distinct and selective style for one, or issues of size and different fits begin to limit your options. Here is just a handful of alternative ideas on what to buy your fashion loving friend this Christmas, without the fear and shame of actually having to make dreaded use of the gift receipt!

A Fashion book

Fashion lovers are constantly feeding off inspiration from many different platforms. What better way to fuel their imagination than to broaden their horizons with a book about fashion? They might be obsessed with a specific designer or period in fashion history. Or they might want to know more about fashion’s relationship with film or music. Whatever their tastes and fashionable endeavors, this gift will definitely please as it is both informative and aesthetically pleasing with all the striking illustrations, covers and photography inside. How about this Coco Chanel quote book from Urban Outfitters for instant doses of wisdom and gumption. How to Read Fashion by Fiona Ffoulkes is a another option that encourages one to be more finely attuned to the omnipresence of fashion, which can be found at Waterstones.

Eyeshadow Palette

An eyeshadow palette is a failsafe gift idea. If you opt for a neutral palette, this will guarantee a practical, everyday beauty staple that they will love you for. Maybelline’s The Nudes Palette is my go to for both a natural everyday look and a dressy beige smoky eye. Alternatively, if they are very experimental with make up and don’t shy away from trying and testing new products, you could find a sparkly or more bold colour palette. This will give them the opportunity to try out different combinations. Either way, a girl always needs a strong eyeshadow collection for every occasion.

Fashion Prints or Posters

Another safe but quirky gift for the fashion addict, a print also satisfies the inevitable extension of fashion to interior decoration. You could find a classy black and white portrait of their favourite model, a vintage print of a magazine cover or a minimalist witty or inspirational fashion quote. You can find these in abundance on the likes of Etsy or  All Posters for an eclectic, authentic and unique collection.

Gift Voucher

I think this gift option gets a little too much stick that’s unjustified. The issues that some people may have are that they are too impersonal or could be assumed a ‘cop out’ because you had no idea what else to get. However, for a fashion lover like myself, I always get excited about receiving a voucher for my favourite store. Not only does this allow your giftee to purchase something they’ll actually wear, it stops unwanted clothes from wasting away at the back of the wardrobe, allowing for a more efficient and resourceful but still relevant and tailored gift! I mean, we’ve all been guilty of only wearing that questionable dress your nan bought on one solitary occasion to show her that you really do love it.

I hope this little brainstorm of fashion related gift ideas will inspire you in your Christmas shopping, whoever you are buying for!
