Campus Celebrity: Sam Skinner

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

It’s been a great week to #bleedgreen with EURFC winning the BUCS championship game against Loughborough University on Wednesday night at Twickenham stadium and Her Campus Exeter were lucky enough to catch up with the captain of the first XV, Sam Skinner.

Name: Sam Skinner

Degree: Business Economics

Year: 2nd

So, Sam, congratulations on winning the BUC’s Championship Game on Wednesday! That must’ve been an incredible experience, what was it like playing at Twickenham?

Thank you, it’s an amazing experience playing at Twickenham and one none of us will ever forget. Playing in front of such a big crowd that made such an effort to come and support us made it extra special.

Who was your personal man of the match?

Well Ted Landray was very dangerous with ball in hand and deserved the MoM award. But, for me, Matt Eliet deserves a lot credit for his phenomenal work rate, on and off the ball, coming up with big momentum carries.

How long have you been playing rugby for?

I started when I was 4 years old playing at Topsham RFC, just down the road from where we play our home BUCS fixtures.

What have been the highlights of your rugby career so far?

I have been very lucky with my experiences in rugby so far, but winning the BUCs cup has topped the lot.

When you’re not playing rugby, what do you do in your spare time?

Studying at Exeter, the degree takes up some of my time, but other than that I enjoy socialising with friends and trying not to talk about rugby too much.

Thank you for chatting with us, Sam!
