Here at HCX we have a love for all things outerwear. From cool, leather biker jackets to the warmest, fluffiest of faux fur coats – we just can’t get enough. Besides, with the walk to campus becoming ever chillier and the temperature set to drop even further over the upcoming weeks, there has never been a better time to invest in a new, statement coat. Here we’ll give you a rundown of the hottest styles this Autumn/Winter.

1. The Cape Coat

Capes have been seen all over the runways this season – and we can see why. With its exposed arms, the cape is the perfect piece to layer over those thick, knit jumpers – without the risk of overheating on a frantic late run to campus. Personally, we love this hound’s-tooth cape with faux fur collar from Zara.

2. The Trench Coat

The trench coat is a fashion staple and one that will simply never go out of style. No matter what you’re wearing underneath, put this timeless piece on, button it up and your outfit instantly looks complete. This one from River Island, available in camel, black or brown, ticks all the boxes for us.

3. The Parka Coat

Perhaps the most practical of all our options, the parka jacket – with its furry lining and oversized hood, shields you perfectly from the wind, the rain and the winter cold, without having to compromise on style. We adore this khaki coloured one with a super furry lining from ASOS, the perfect addition to our winter wardrobe.

4. The Faux Fur Coat

If you’re looking to make more of a statement, then a faux fur coat may be for you. Its big and bold and not to mention fantastically warm for those cold winter months. To ensure you don’t go overboard and end up looking like Chewbacca – stick to just one fur piece and keep the rest of your outfit simple. You might opt for a bold print on your faux fur such as leopard, or you could keep it simple with the likes of this gorgeous grey coat from Topshop.

5. The Wrap Coat

The wrap coat is one of our personal favourites as it is basically a socially acceptable way to wear a dressing gown outside. Now what could be better than that? In a similar way to the trench coat, once you’ve got this wrapped around you it’s the only piece you need to look effortlessly cool and put together. This one is an absolute steal from Pretty Little Thing.
