To celebrate the end of exam week, on Saturday 17th January, Exeter Phoenix is hosting a night showcasing the best in Exeter’s underground club scene. With Resident DJ’s from Exit, Our House, Hold it Down and Mahatma Music  it’s set to be an eclectic night of electronic music across 4 rooms at the Phoenix.

2.     Rent

Shotgun theatre presents the rock musical ‘Rent’ from the 19th-22nd January. A musical based on Puccini’s La Bohème,’Rent’ replaces the splendour of Puccini’s world with the coarseness and noise of modern New York. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and create a life in New York City’s East Village in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

Held at the Phoenix, tickets are selling out fast, student prices start at ÂŁ10:

3.     Le Cirque Sombre

Last year they brought us the Prohibition Ball, this year RAG are producing Le Cirque Sombre on the 30th January.

Unleashing an opulent night full of astonishment and glamour, the circus theme is given a dark and mysterious twist. Escape reality through the combination of fire, burlesque and circus acts accompanied by music from Rotten Apple Orchestra, Mahatma, Beats and Bass and Freejak.

Located in the Great Hall, grab a ticket at ÂŁ30 (all in the name of charity):

4.     ‘EVITA’ at the Northcott Theatre

From the 28th-31st January, Exeter University Footlights presents ‘Evita’, a story that follows the captivating rise and fall of a nation’s hero.  Based on the life of Argentine actress and political leader Eva PerĂłn, she begins from nothing, rising through the ranks to become one of the most famous political figures in the country’s history.  ‘Evita’ features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice and is one of their most successful musicals.  The show had an incredible run in the West End and on Broadway and has recently finished a successful UK Tour.
