3 Ways to Wear Your Christmas Jumper

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

It’s that time of year again! The air smells like mulled wine, beautiful light displays twinkle from every exposed surface, we find ourselves reaching for our mittens more and more often, and there are woollen reindeer patterns everywhere we look. They may not seem versatile, but we’re here to show you three easy ways to style cozy Christmas jumpers this winter.

Comfy and casual

Before we can properly get into the holiday spirit, we have to get through deadlines, but it’s more than possible to feel the Christmas spirit while staying warm on a day full of lectures. Layer a bright Christmas jumper over soft velvet leggings for an interesting mix of textures, with brown riding boots and the essential warm accessories, including convertible mitten-gloves for maximum texting abilities. Finish with sparkly earrings shaped like snowflakes and your warmest winter coat.

Cozy chic

For a family celebration, a casual holiday lunch, or a day of gift-shopping in town, dress up a snowflake-print jumper by layering it over a black skater skirt, with burgundy wool tights for a pop of color and warmth. (Depending on the jumper’s material, you could also try tucking it into the skirt and/or cinching with a belt.) Add a fun antler ring, and if you’re going to be out and about, keep your ears warm with a slouchy knit cap and your feet dry with riding boots like those pictured in the first look. If you’re staying out of the cold, finish the look with little brown heels and a festive red hair bow.

Cheesy all the way

If you’re looking to go completely over-the-top for a cheesy Christmas party, start by (gasp!) letting go of all your style rules and grabbing instead the most outrageous sequined jumper you can find. Add a pair of festive red corduroy trousers and laugh in the face of stiletto-wearers everywhere as you pull on the cheesiest sequined Uggs or Christmas slippers money can buy. From there, go for glory with as many clashing accessories you can find, from antler headbands to Christmas-light necklaces to a light-up sprig of plastic mistletoe that you hold over your head wherever you go. Finally, Christmas socks are absolutely mandatory. This is non-negotiable.

This holiday season, have fun and stay warm with your favorite Christmas jumpers! Have more ideas on how to style them? Let us know in the comments below.

Rekha is a senior English and Film double major who breaks out in stress hives at the prospect of graduating. While abroad at Exeter, she was a huge fan of clotted cream, Topshop, and the sheep that hang out on the sides of roads; now that she's back at Kenyon, she is a fan of roaming the library sans shoes and eating Doritos too loudly on the third floor.
