10 Things We Learnt from the VMAs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

If you have been anywhere near a computer or a TV in the last couple of weeks, you’ll know that the annual MTV Video Music Awards caused a bit of a stir. With NSync reforming, Taylor Swift’s not-so-subtle dig at ex Harry Styles and Miley Cyrus’ simply jaw-dropping performance (in so many ways) – it was not a night to be missed. Her Campus took away these vital life lessons from the awards ceremony…

1.       That fame and money DOES make you better looking. No offence to the other N-Sync boys, but HELLO Justin and well done on looking like that:

2.       That celebrities like to maintain their 5 a day no matter where they are, as One Direction’s Harry Styles demonstrated, munching away on an orange whilst his bandmates jiggled about to Drake:

3.       That rubber underwear does absolutely nothing for you:

4.      That the Smith family weren’t the biggest fans of Lady Gaga’s attire:

5.      But the 1D boys didn’t seem to mind… just look at those happy faces:

6.       How to break free from your squeaky clean Disney persona:

7.       That Billy Ray Cyrus is just as odd daring as his daughter:

8.       Not to get on the wrong side of T Swift:

9.       That we will never, ever look at foam fingers in the same way again. Seriously Miley, you’ve ruined them for everyone:

10.       That you should really check for cameras before tucking into your dinner. Take note Iggy Azalea:

So there you have it, an evening of not only solid entertainment, but education. See what Her Campus thought about Miley’s scandalous performance here.

Katie is a fourth year English Literature and Spanish student and General Culture Editor for HCX. She has recently returned from a glorious year abroad in Spain, first spending 5 months at Córdoba University, and then 5 months as Content & Editorial Assistant at Splendia, a luxury travel company in Barcelona. While she is definitely missing the sun, sea and sangria, Katie is so happy to be back in Old Blighty spending time with friends and family, going for country walks and enjoying her Mum's marvellous cooking. Having been an editor for the launch year of Exeter's Branch of Her Campus she is keen to get stuck in again and continue the great success that HCX has had over the past year. Katie likes to think she's well qualified for the position of Culture Editor as she enjoys nights at the theatre, curling up with a cup of tea and a juicy book and most of all, indulging her dangerously sweet tooth. Katie is excited to start writing for Her Campus again and stop talking about herself in the third person - it's a truly odd experience.
