Well collegiates, it’s that time of year again. Your nearest supermarket is stocked to the brim with cuddly bears, heart shaped chocolates and flowers. It can only mean one thing…of course, it’s Valentine’s Day! Now this can either be good or bad, or possibly neither if you’re not too fussed about the occasion. But what’s more important than if you have a boyfriend or not is, if you were metaphorically sucked into the glitz and glamour of an American movie or TV sitcom, under which romantic character would you fall? So let’s skip the lovey-dovey talk for now and cut straight to the chase:
1. Bridget Jones (Bridget Jones) – I’m going to eat ice-cream and cry.
Have you spent your last Valentine’s days wrapped up in your duvet, scoffing cheap knock off Ben & Jerry’s (let’s face it, with our student budget the closest we’ll ever get to good ice-cream is ASDA smart price) and singing, at the top of your voice, to the latest releases on Spotify? Congratulations, you are the stereotypical single girl! We’ve all been there, but just remember, every romance or crush has it’s up’s and down’s along the way, even before we find the ‘one’. Bridget found her ‘Mr Darcy’, yet she had to face some embarrassing situations beforehand (*cough* bunny outfit *cough*). However, if you’re bored of waiting around you could always settle for second best, everyone needs a Daniel Cleaver in their life, right?
2. Bella Swan (The Twilight Saga) – The bit too lucky-in-love.
When you think about it, despite the fact that that she is dating a 107 year old Vampire and is simulatenously best friends with said vampire’s worst enemy, Bella Swan has a pretty easy love life. Two good looking fellas competing for her attention, who wouldn’t want that? If you’re one of these girls who has a string of men lusting after you, then thank you for taking the time out of your love-filled life to check out this blog and also, would you be so kind as to just pick one and give us the rest? (Preferably the one who looks like Robert Pattinson).
3. Jessica Day (New Girl) – Queen of Quirky.
With quotes from “Ugh, couples” to “Eating cookies and avoiding confrontation”, it’s safe to say that we see a bit of Jess Day in all of us. You’re kooky and always up for a laugh. So this February 14th don’t let being single get you down. Embrace being a single collegiate, get a little crazy, and learn from what our dearest New Girl taught us…drink pink wine and understand that “we’re weirdos. But that’s who we are and that’s fine”.
4. Homer Simpson (The Simpsons) – Who needs a Valentine when you have food and beer?
He’s a beer guzzling, food devouring TV addict, and that is when the scary revelation creeps in. We are Homer Simpson! Homer Simpson is us! If you don’t have a Valentine this year, take the opportunity to eat whatever you want, whenever you want. Even if you’re not bothered about single life, a day of excessive eating will always sound appealing. Pizza for breakfast? Pizza for lunch? Pizza for dinner? Why not! Who has the right to judge us today? Binge eating and watching all seasons of Breaking Bad in one week, yes please! Just make sure you don’t make a habit of it, or you might actually turn into him.
5. Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) – The Passive and Patient Princess.
You’re not letting single life affect your day to day activities. You’re a strong-willed person who doesn’t need a man to shape your life. Waiting for your Prince Charming can seem tiring and tedious, but everything will work out for the best. For the time being take a leaf out of Aurora’s book and catch up on some beauty sleep. Every collegiate loves sleeping, and if you’re lucky you might wake up to a strikingly attractive man leaning in for a kiss (or maybe not, because that might be a little strange).
6. Jamie (Friends with Benefits) – BFFL.
Having a boyfriend doesn’t have to be a big deal and the commitment that comes with them can sometimes be stressful, especially for us Collegiates! Sometimes having a good friend to goof around with is all the fun you need right now. It doesn’t take dedication to go out for a milkshake or catch the latest film with your guy friends. And if you find love along the way then that’s an added bonus!
7. Samantha Jones (Sex and the City) – Goddess.
Need we say more?
