The Minack Theatre

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter Cornwall chapter.

The Minack Theatre is Cornwall’s world famous open-air theatre. The word “Minack” in Cornish means a rocky place, and until the 1930s the rocks below the theatre were a popular fishing spot. However, in 1931, Rowena Cade began the process of creating a theatre on the cliff-edge. Located in Porthcurno, the Minack is a wonderful place to visit for a look around, and there are many productions- from Legally Blonde: The Musical, to the repetoire of Shakespeare. For a magical theatre experience, the Minack is the place to go.

The immediate presence of the sea is stunning, and any production performed on this stage, meters from the roaring water, absorbs the incredible atmosphere. If you possibily can, try and get to Minack- it’s an experience of a lifetime.
