Whether you like it or not, Christmas is just around the corner. This means it’s time to get festive with your flatmates and think about covering every available surface with Christmas decorations before you all part ways in a few weeks and go home to celebrate properly. But why not go out with a bang? Here are some low budget ways to decorate your uni halls, or at least inspire you to get creative on your own.Â
P.S. Thanks to my very festive flatmate Jess for letting me photograph her room!
1) Never underestimate the power of paper.Â
Go and buy a few rolls of christmas wrapping paper from Card Factory in Falmouth for ÂŁ1 and cellotape it all over your doors. The outcome might surprise you!
Then buy the pre-cut packs of paper chains, also usually ÂŁ1, or even get artsy and make some yourself. Hang them over door frames and from ceilings until it feels like you’re at a party. You could even go old school and make some paper snowflakes to stick everywhere- doors, windows, mirrors, cupboards, just go crazy!Â
Â
2) Fairy lights make everything look better.
Long gone are the days when fairy lights were simply for wrapping around Christmas trees. Oh no, hang them over your bed and cupboards to create that warm and cosy ambience we all miss from home. The results speak for themselves.
Â
3) You can’t beat a bit of tinsel
Throw it over any noticeboards, tape it around the end of the kitchen table, drape it across the cupboards. Sparkle people!
Â
4) Size isn’t everything.
It’s great if you and your flatmates are all willing to chip in and go all out on decorations, but don’t worry if you’re not. It’s easy to search around and find cheap Christmas trees (ASDA, Wilko’s, Trago Mills) but they’ll soon start selling out. If that’s the case, buy a teeny tiny tree to sit on your desk- spray it with a Christmas scentred air freshener (cinammon, mulled wine, red apples…) to remind you that the holidays aren’t that far away now.
Extra  touches include Christmassy tablecloths and dinnerware (again, from a supermarket), multiple fluffy blankets and throws over your bed, and (of course) a constant presence of mince pies and Quality Streets on the kitchen table. Now go forth and be festive! xoxo
