Campus Celeb: Kayleigh Hardy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter Cornwall chapter.

This week’s Campus Celeb is second year English undergraduate, Kayleigh Hardy! Originally from Derby, which she insists is “definitely not up north”, Kayleigh was inspired to move to Cornwall as a result of numerous holidays here as a child and her love of beach barbecues!

Kayleigh has always played an active role within the English department, acting as a student ambassador for English since her first year. She was vice president of the English society this year and was recently elected to act next year as not only a third year rep, but also as president of the English society! She believes it is important to be “nosy” and to get involved in order to be able to make a difference on campus and believes that the Cornwall campus specifically offers “an amazingly different experience which our students should benefit from”.

Despite her obvious interest in taking part in the academic side of university life, she also participates in an impressive array of extra-curricular activies! She is a member of the CSM Netball team, who have been undefeated so far this season and recently received a nomination for Sports Club of the Year. She also took on the role of publicity officer for Cornwall Netball outside of university, as she feels it is important to get involved with the wider community. Additionally, Kayleigh has a flair for music and has been playing the alto saxophone since she was just 12 years old. She is a member of the campus jazz band, Jazz Harbour, who you might have seen performing at the recent Great Gatsby Ball! In addition to her numerous academic and extra-curricular hobbies, over the past two years Kayleigh has still found the time to volunteer, working with Oxfam Falmouth and assisting them in their campaigns and fundraising efforts.

She can often be found walking along her favourite spot in town, Gylly Beach, but also admits to being rather partial to a drink in the summer time at the Chainlocker pub! To find out more about Kayleigh be sure to follow her on Twitter and check out her blog, kayleighrosehardy.blogspot.co.uk.
