Netflix & Youtube’s Best Spooky True Crime Series

By: Julia Keegan

Casting Jonbenet (Netflix)

This documentary is the story of the murder of JonBenet Ramsey told by actors who believe they are telling auditioning for the roles as the Ramsey family and the other members surrounding the case. Now only is this unsolved murder creepy enough, but the filmmakers add equally haunting visuals and music. This is not at all a gory true crime series, but very addictive. You are so sucked into the Ramsey Home in Colorado, the whole story goes by in a blink, and it will leaving you a little scared but also wanting more.

Buzzfeed Unsolved (Youtube)

This Buzzfeed Original stars Ryan, the believer, and Shane, the skeptic, either discussing unsolved crime stories or unsolved supernatural cases depending on the season. I see this as our modern day X-Files in some ways. There are two co workers who have amazing banter that you feel almost as if they are your friends too. With that, are the stories Ryan is narrating and Shane is reacting to that are weird and creepy because as the title infers they are unsolved. Ryan brings some popular and some unknown true crime cases to the table, and discusses every detail and theory involved. Buzzfeed Unsolved is now in its eighth season, so you have a lot of binging to do.

Evil Genius (Netflix)

This four part docu-series story is about one of the craziest bank heists and the crazy characters involved. Each person involved has a different truth to tell, and you never really know who is lying and who isn’t. There are different interviews with most of the people involved, so this really is as close as a first hand account you can get of this event. This event is a failed scavenger hunt and bank heist that murdered a pizza delivery man and involved a women who hid a man in her freezer. Evil Genius is 100% true and 100% crazy, and you need to see to believe.

Kendall Rae (Youtube)

This youtuber has the absolute best and most constant true crime stories on the internet. Pretty much every Tuesday, Kendall releases a video with a new case regarding either a missing person, murder, or even a cult. Her videos range from widely talked about stories to ones where people involved come to her to tell it. She goes into as much detail as she can, and keeps you interested with real pictures and news clips. A lot of what she talk about are cases happening in modern day that most I haven’t heard about. So if you are tired of the same old true crime stories, I guarantee Kendall Rae has a video on a story you haven’t heard before.

The Keepers (Netflix)

This true crime docuseries is about a murder of a nun who was beloved by the community and school surrounding her. The Keepers tells multiple stories inside this one murder case. You follow two women who have spent a lot of their adult life investigating the murder of their teacher. Hearing from other nuns, catholic school alumni, and cops involved takes you all throughout this unsolved case. This is one of the easiest binges of any Netflix show, I think, because you have so many questions and are constantly looking for so many answers throughout the series.
