Marzia Bisognin’s Departure from YouTube & What We Can Learn From It

By Jessie Donahue

On October 22th, 25 year-old lifestyle and beauty vlogger Marzia Bisognin made an exit from her Youtube career of six years. In her final video, Bisognin discussed how she feels the need to introduce something new into her life, as well as the struggles that come with having her private life online. “ I think it’s great how people can relate to others online. I grew so much more confident because of it, but if you allow it to take over your life, I think it’s not healthy” Bisognin laments. Despite her departure from the platform, Bisognin makes it clear that she will miss all the positive experiences YouTube has given her. “I don’t want to force myself to keep going when I feel like I’m ready to do something different. I hope this doesn’t come across as me being tired of this. It’s not about that. It’s about me needing to find my path.”

Bisognin’s channel is one I have been watching since my days in middle school, and the fact that she is closing a significant chapter of her life while I am starting one as college freshman seems fitting. Although I’m sure many Marzipans (what Bisognin called her followers) are saddened by her departure, I think there is a valuable lesson to be learned. In order to find personal happiness, we must seek out our own personal fulfillment, even if it is not a decision everyone is happy with. Self care and self exploration is something everyone should seek, and Bisognin demonstrates that the pursuit of happiness is a noble one.
