How I Stay Up to Date on Pop Culture When I’m Drowning in Work

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Endicott chapter.

It’s midterm season, and that means instead of spending my time doing everything else regarding school work than scrolling Twitter, Instagram, and everything else. Especially during this season, keeping up with what’s going on with pop culture, even when it is my favorite thing to do, can feel like an added homework assignment. I don;t just want to go silent on everything happening from fashion, tik tok, or celebrity trends. I mean what if I miss the next riisssseeee and ssshhhiiinnnee??

Here is a list of the magazine, podcasts, and people I prioritize when I want a good opinion on what happened either throughout the day or even in the hour in pop culture:

The Keep It Podcast

A Crooked Media production hosted by Ira Madison III, Louis Virtel, and Aida Osman. While most of Crooked Media is talking politics, their main focus is pop culture with a few hints of how it connects to politics. Somehow all the hosts sum up everything happening on Twitter and in the entertainment industry perfectly, so you are all caught up after the hour long podcasts posted every Wednesday.

The Cut

The Cut is part of New York Magazine, and I have yet to see an article from that I didn’t like. They cover beauty, fashion, politics, celebrity news, true crime, and basically anything else that people in the media are talking about with a fresh take. My Twitter feed has basically become a commercial for them because I see a cut article, I retweeted it.

Hunter Harris (@hunteryharris) on Twitter

Hunter Harris is a staff writer for Vulture, which basically means she knows her stuff about the entertainment industry. Every tweet she sends is a perfect joke and/or commentary on everything film and the culture surrounding it, especially Timothee Chalamet.

The High Low Podcast

This is my international point of view that I get once a week. Dolly Alderton and Pandora Sykes go through everything that is happening in Britain and Europe as a whole, as well as America sometimes. It’s good to always get a different point of view, and Dolly and Pandora have a really great point of view (especially for book recommendations).

Vulture

This is another site under New York Magazine, and basically cover everything going on in the entertainment industry regarding – movies, television, books, music, and more. One scroll through the headlines of the Vulture, and I guarantee you will be caught up. Plus they have great writers like Hunter.

Alyssa Vingan Klein (@alyssavingan) on Twitter

Alyssa Vingan Klein is an editorial director at NYLON Magazine, who was previously the editor in chief of fashionista.com. Her Twitter bio pretty much sums up why I love her Twitter: Likes fashion, snacks, music, models, Anna Wintour, and Bella Hadid. She also loves Harry Styles, so I know I can always count on her for what’s going on with him.
