FALLowing The Fashion Trends For The Perfect Outfit This Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Endicott chapter.

It’s that time of the year again: apple picking, getting lost in corn mazes, carving pumpkins, feeling spooky, and most importantly, pumpkin spice! However, you cannot just wear anything, this is the season for fashion. You need to be looking your best, which is why I’m here to help.

Get with it.

The leaves are changing, and so should your wardrobe. It’s not just time to get rid of the tank tops and shorts. I’m talking about staying away from anything bright and colorful…that was sooo last season. Typically, I love sticking to darker tones like greys, navy, maroon, taupe, and black (can’t go wrong with black). These are signature colors which look great against pumpkins, Macintosh apple trees, or a pumpkin spice latte in your hand.

The Jacket

Throw the vest and flannel away sweetie, that was soooooo 2016. I know it can feel a bit awkward wearing a jacket for the first time in awhile, but let’s be real, it’s for the look not always comfort. That’s why a great go-to, would have to be a black leather jacket. It’s stylish, comfortable, warm, and makes you look like a girl boss. All black leather jackets are made so voguish. Some of them have buckles, cool zippering, and really unique detailing, which helps express your own personality through a piece of clothing. My favorite thing about a black leather jacket is how it can be worn throughout the day. If you’re running to yoga or spin class, throw on a black leather jacket, and you have a completed look at six in the morning. The leather jacket can also be paired with a basic white tee, some jeans, and a slip on shoe or white sneakers, for a more casual wear. If you think this look might be too dressy for class, you can easily skip the day scene, and wear it  going out. The jacket itself can be thrown on over a cute dress, a mid length skirt, jeans and a cute blouse, and ANYTHING ELSE! Hello, this outerwear staple is associated with almost every cool rock star who’s ever lived on this planet.  Besides, the feint scent of leather always reminds me of fall. If you feel a black leather jacket is just not for you, my next fall jacket staple would have to be the bomber jacket. Just like the leather, it hits at the right place, a bit above the hips, highlighting your waist, and can be paired with anything from leggings, skirts, jeans, and cute tops.

The Pants

If you’re not digging into your closet for warmer clothes, you will be soon. It’s time to put away the shorts and skirts, and pull out the pants. Can you think of any pants you wear more frequently than your black skinny jeans? These are a definite staple for this season because they go with EVERYTHING, duh. They can dress an outfit up, or down. I hate how they call them “skinny” because you can be any shape or form to rock them. They are however a tighter fit and usually not even denim (depending on who makes them), but are commonly very stretchy and comfortable. Black skinny jeans can be paired with blazers, your favorite basic t, crop tops, bodysuits, sweatshirts, sweaters, white sneakers, slip on shoes, or booties…Am I forgetting anything? I honestly cannot think of something that won’t look cute with them, can you? Also, just like your favorite denim, they can be worn more than once throughout the week, and nobody will know…Unless you tell them. But in all seriousness, black skinny jeans define the curves, never get dirty, and are always in season. You are crazy if you don’t own a pair.

The Shoe

I like a variety of shoes when it comes to the Fall. However, like I may have hinted at, I’m a sucker for cute white sneakers, or the perfect booty. I love a good white sneaker because just like most of my staples, they go with everything and make an outfit more casual and more comfortable. I personally prefer the white platform Supergas, because  and are unique due to their thick sole, and not many people I know have them. As for the booty, I honestly really like to shop at Forever 21 or Express for those types of shoes. Both stores carry a great variety of booties, especially this time of year. I have a fabulous pair of suede, army green ones, from Express which I have owned for awhile as well as a black pair from Forever 21, which both clip clop (music to my ears). In terms of booties this time of year, it does not matter the material. I prefer suede, but leather would top off your fit if you are already wearing your black skinny jeans. Booties to me, sometimes feel like a nighttime or a “going into the city” look, which is why I love wearing my white platform Supergas during the day. Both shoes are a necessity item in your closet, and again, look great when apple or pumpkin picking.

The Accessory

If you know me, you know how I loveeeee a good pair of earrings. They can either make or break an outfit. In my opinion, they highlight and enhance the beauty of a person’s face. For this fall, I’m going to recommend you wearing a good hoop. Rose, gold, or silver, big, or small, the hoop ties together all stylish outfits. Besides the fact that hoops match any outfit, they can also be worn with any hair style. Usually, if I’m wearing more dangle earrings, I tend to pull my hair back and off my face so the earring is the main focal point of my outfit. In this case, having a slicked back pony, a low bun, a half up-half down style, or hair completely down, does not matter when wearing hoops. You know what they say (and which I live by), “when the hoops earrings come on, the boss babe comes out.” ~unknown~

To all my girls who will be strutting around campus looking like a fashionista this fall, just remember comfort and confidence is key. If you are feeling self conscious and don’t like yourself in anything, don’t wear it. The worst feeling is putting on an outfit, and not feeling or looking like yourself. Believe me, I know. Just remember, comfort and confidence NEVER go out of style, particularly if you are sipping a pumpkin spice latte!
