Style Recap: The Summer’s Hottest Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

After an all too short summer vacay, Her Campus Emory is back in action, and ready to make up for lost time. First things first, let’s recap what went down in the fashion world while we’ve been away. We’re talking the season’s hottest styles…read up on what’s trending now!

Denim on Denim on Denim
From bright colors, to animal prints, to floral patterns, there’s no shortage of choices when it comes to jean shorts and skinnies. The perfect pair of pants can totally make an outfit – throw on your wild jeans with a plain tank and your fave sandals and you’re good to go! Plus, we’re sensing a revival of the 90s, with denim on denim outfits popping up left and right. As long as the denim shades are different, don’t be afraid to wear just jean!

Color Blocking Brights
As you’ve probably guessed, neon is the new pink. From colored denim, to neon sneakers, this summer’s motto seems to be “the brighter, the better.” Colored pumps and purses are in every store window, and color blocking (pairing bright, contrasting solids together) is a trend to try!

All About Ombre
It started a few years back when the hottest celebs stepped out with ombre-died hair (dark to light). Now, this fad has taken over the fashion industry, with ombre shaded shorts and tops, and even ombre manicures! This trendy take on tie-dye is a fun way to incorporate new colors into your wardrobe, and the perfect hairstyle for girls who constantly struggle with bad roots. We’ve got a sneaking suspicion that this look will take us straight into fall, too!

Cutest Cutouts
Here’s geometry we all love! Dresses and tops with cutout shapes and patterns are all the rage right now, and they add a trendy twist to some of your favorite summer basics. Cutouts are the perfect way to show a little skin while keeping it classy (usually), especially for a fun night out!

High-Low Lovin’

This season debuted an amazing revision of the maxi skirt. Short in the front and long in the back, the high-low skirt gives you the flowing, breezy feel of a maxi skirt and let’s you show off your legs in the summer! From cotton tees and simple sundresses to formal party gowns, high-low is everywhere this summer! Don’t miss out!

Missed the memo on some of these trends? Not to worry, with temperatures in the ATL still pushing 90, it’s not too late to rock these summer styles!

Jessica lives her life at several speeds. She talks too fast, eats too slow and over-analyzes too much.  When she’s not telling long-winded stories, sitting alone at the dinner table, or staring off into space, Jessica loves all things creative. Screenwriter, play director and poet at age 9, songwriter and choreographer at age 16, now, at 23, all she really wants to do is write, help others, and post Instagrams.  As a social media coordinator for multiple fashion brands, and a post-grad writer for Her Campus, she gets to do just that. Jessica is a Midwestern girl from the suburbs of Chicago, but she fell in love with city living during a summer internship in the Big Apple, and now calls NYC home. Jessica loves chocolate milkshakes, dance parties, Chippewa Ranch Camp, Friends re-runs, Chuck Bass and of course, spending time with her fans (read: family and friends).
