Ready to be a Southern Belle? Homecoming Week Fashion

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

It’s Homecoming week here at Emory! For those upperclassmen returning to Emory, I’m sure you remember the excitement and fun events coming up throughout the week. Freshmen get excited to experience your first Homecoming, “Swoop’s County Fair”. With all the southern-themed festivities ahead of us, why not get into the country mood.
Style your looks this week as the Southern belle or cowgirl you are or wish you could be! The key to a Southern style is all about comfort and ease, so take a look at some of these suggestions, and prepare to create your own looks!

Monday: Chile Cook-off in Asbury Circle
With a live bluegrass band, bbq, fortune teller and, of course, lots and lots of chile, Monday’s Chile Cook-off in Asbury Circle is sure to be a huge hit! Wear your cutest denim shorts and pair it with a bright tank, checkered lumberjack shirt, or neutral top and bandana to show your inner cowgirl. Don’t forget to add a big belt and cowgirl boots if you’re really feeling the theme. And remember to vote for your favorite Chile after you’ve tried them all!

Wednesday: Wonderful Wednesday

Get ready to celebrate the county fair at Wonderful Wednesday! Country music, loads of hay and farmers, and of course, free give-a-ways will dominate Asbury Circle from 11-3 pm. As always, jean shorts are a staple down south in this heat, but you can also wear a floral sundress and denim vest with cowgirl boots or a sunhat to stick with the theme! White or beige shorts with a white crochet tank top give you a look of casual Southern elegance as well. Make sure you hitch a ride on the hayrides leaving from Asbury Circle and making their way around to Mcdonough Field and the Woodpec!

Thursday: Comedian Amy Schumer at Glenn Memorial (7pm)

Who doesn’t want to get together with friends and laugh like crazy all night long? Comedian Amy Schumer will be coming to Emory on Thursday night, and she’s expected to produce a hilarious show. Dress in your most flattering jeans, cute flats, a sheer blouse, and lots of jewelry (pearls or diamonds…its up to you! A girl can never have too much jewelry!) for a Southern girl’s entertaining night out with your friends. All this model needs are tons of bracelets, earrings, and a small clutch and she’s ready for the evening!

Friday: Homecoming Ball ft. Cazzette

Time to let go of any stress you may have from classes and get pumped to rage the night away with DJ Cazzette on McDonough Field! Seeing as we’re in the South, be prepared for warm weather with some slight breezes (typical of Atlanta!), and dress to get your groove on. Denim skirts or high-waisted shorts with slub cotton tees and tanks, or soft dresses with a statement necklace dominate this casual party rager. You can be comfortable and look hot as you dance all night to Cazzette’s awesome beats. Take a leaf out of a Southern girl’s book on casual comfort and create your own chic look with a bit of denim, a splash of color, and a lot of character.

Saturday: Tailgate, Homecoming Soccer Game, Parade, and Alumni Concert ft. Slightly Stoopid

It’s time to paint the gold and blue on your faces and go tailgate before the Homecoming Soccer game against U. Chicago! Okay, so maybe you don’t need to rub face paint all over your cheeks to show your Emory spirit, but make sure to deck out in blue and gold to support your team! In true Southern belle style, a casual summer dress (maybe in blue or gold!) can be dressed up with appropriate jewelry and accessories such as a cross-body bag, large sunglasses, a sunhat, wedges, or even bright red lipstick. Let out your inner Southern belle for the game, parade, and Slightly Stoopid Alumni Concert. You’ll look irresistible and feminine—the picture of perfection as you casually enjoy your free King of Pops popsicles at the concert!

Get excited for one of the best, most exciting and entertaining weeks of the year, while having a blast showing off your cute cowgirl outfits or pretty looks through the week!
