Rainy days at Emory are hardly drab. Yes, the sky matches the pavement and everyone hides under black umbrellas, but if you just look down, you’ll probably see a rainbow. This is because every girl on campus will be combating the puddles with a bright pair of Hunter rain boots. From red to purple to dark green to bright wellington yellow, Asbury circle reliably bursts with colors while buckets pour from above.
The boots are cute and undeniably practical (as I learned when I attempted to navigate an intense downpour in Converse: fail), but as far as expressing individual style… the rain boots seen on campus generally vary only between a range of about six colors. And, as said earlier, every girl wears them—and every girl on campus divided by six equals a whole lot of people wearing the exact same thing. This would never fly at the Oscars! Or, god forbid, at your high school prom! But how can you show your unique style with Hunter’s minimal color palette?
Well, first off, you can check out what else Hunter has to offer, like the Carnaby Boa Metallic boots! With the same shape as the original wellies, these boots have a chic snakeskin texture and come in either pewter or gold—a great way to glitz things up! Or you can combine your rain boots with the ever-popular wedge. Though this may make the DUC stairs a little daunting, your clothes will be that much farther from getting soaked by puddle splashes. And if you’re ready for a splurge, try on Jimmy Choo’s Hunter rain boots—they have a fabulous crocodile texture on the outside and equally fab leopard print on the inside! Those puddles won’t stand a chance.
Though solid-colored boots come with the guarantee that they’ll match just about everything in your closet, patterned wellies can add some much-needed pizzazz to any plain outfit. You may want to deviate from the Hunter brand and try the classic Burberry plaid rain boots. Burberry also makes some super stylish buckled rain boots—these can be worn rain or shine!
Nordstrom also has some adorable Chooka boots with patterns ranging from peacock to lace to a whale print and even a “whimsical print” called Gypsy Owl. A personal fav is this black, purple and grey print: the pop of color and artsy graphics will look great against your standard leggings and a neutral top. These boots also won’t break the bank, at about half the price of a standard Hunter pair; definitely a stylish deal.
Yes, the rain will surely dampen your day, whether it splashes on your bag or frizzes your hair or god forbid, leaks into your Caramel Macchiato. But fortunately, it doesn’t have to dampen your style. So, here’s to fashionable outfits, showcasing your personal trendiness, rain or shine!
