If an internship stole away your chances to attend any big music festivals this summer, you are in luck: Atlanta has a festival of its own, with many of the same bands!

Check out Music Midtown at Piedmont Park on Saturday, September 24. You can catch Coldplay, The Black
Keys, Cage the Elephant, Manchester Orchestra, Young the Giant, The Joy Formidable and Band of Skulls, all of which played at Lollapalooza or Bonnaroo. The Constellations, The Postelles and Mona will also play at the event, which starts at 1 p.m.

Tickets start at $55, but special VIP packages are available. You can purchase them online with fees for $71.50 at ticketmaster.com, or at the Tabernacle box office with no additional fees for the next two Fridays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The event is hosted by Mayor Kasim Reed, City of Atlanta and Live Nation’s Peter Conlon. “This is an event that
will bring energy and excitement to midtown and attract music lovers from across the city and state,” says Mayor Reed. “Piedmont Park is a world-class venue that is perfect for a world-class music festival.”

Things to bring: a towel, water bottle and some bug spray. Things not to bring: food or beverages (these will be available for purchase at the concert, alcoholic drinks included), oversized backpacks and lawn chairs.

Not only does Music Midtown 2011 feature a nationally acclaimed music line-up, but it also donates to the community. A portion of the proceeds will go toward funding recreation centers and after-school activities for Atlanta youths as part of Mayor Reed’s Centers of Hope initiative. This effort creates safe, structured centers where young people can practice academics, play sports and build character.

What are Emory students most looking forward to about Music Midtown?

“I’m most excited for The Black Keys—I never thought I’d get a chance to see them!” says sophomore Michelle
Peretz, who listens to the band while studying.

“I’m really excited to be in Piedmont Park, to be outside, and to be able to participate in a music festival in the middle of Atlanta,” says Alizeh Ahmad, another sophomore in the College. “And I can’t wait to see Coldplay!”

A fantastic music line-up, a fun outdoors atmosphere, and a good cause: Music Midtown 2011 is sure to be a hit. So stop stalking the web for hints of the Bonnaroo 2012 line-up already and get ready for some Viva la Vida!

She is slightly obsessed with magazines and has written and edited for Her Campus since its start at Emory her freshman year. At Emory she can generally be found giving tours to prospies, hanging with her ADPi sisters, DJ-ing with WMRE and om-ing in yoga classes. Allison enjoys music, drawing, and fashion, and like most college students she is completely addicted to coffee. After graduation she wants to work in public relations or marketing, but her secret dream is to become Lena Dunham. Follow her on Twitter: @alldayallison
