Mary Hollis McGreevy: THANK YOU??? One Year Later

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

One year later, and I can safely say Mary Hollis McGreevy is as relevant as ever because of her reply-all to an All-Emory email (roughly 43,000 people) saying “THANK YOU????” for a snow day on February 10th, 2014 to Gary S. Hauk. The sophomore International Studies and History major who still loves laundry and her Alpha Delta Pi sisters caught Her Campus Emory up on life after the infamous email.

Her Campus Emory (HCE): Do people still ask you about the THANK YOU???? Email?

Mary Hollis McGreevy (MHM): Yes, every time I go anywhere and introduce myself and then people go “You’re the girl who sent the email aren’t you?”

HCE: Are you more careful when you press reply or reply all?

MHM: Yes, I usually double check before sending

HCE: Do you still receive hate emails?

MHM: I no longer receive emails regarding my original email; however, sometimes people will sign their emails to me THANK YOU?????

HCE: Opinions on this past snow day? Was it snowy enough? What did you do?

MHM: I wish there had been snow that stuck. Coming from Charleston, SC, I really appreciate the little bit of snow I ever get to see. I still have yet to build a snowman. I ordered in pizza and caught up on schoolwork (Does this make me boring? Whatever I was happy)

HCE: How do you feel about being a Yik Yak topic every time a snow day possibility comes around?

MHM: I don’t quite know because I don’t have the app, therefore I never post. I am honored the people of Emory still remember me.

HCE: Have you met Gary S. Hauk?

MHM: I have met Gary S. Hauk, and now I am working closely together with him on the Emory History and Traditions committee. This committee helps to promote the esprit of Emory, which is “Let us stand by what is good and make it better if we can” Pres. Atticus Haygood 1859C. For more info, check out their website: http://www.emoryhistory.emory.edu/index.html . I am very humbled to be a part of it.

HCE: One year later, any fresh insight about the email?

MHM: I don’t want to be rude to Ms. Nancy Seideman, but I wish the Class of 2018 understood the upperclassmen’s love for Gary S. Hauk and how he is our hero. The email also gave me a great conversation starter for Recruitment 2015 (BOOM BOOM!)

HCE: Heard a rumor you met another president this year?

MHM: Yes, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet President Jimmy Carter when he visited my “Race and the American Presidency” class this past fall semester. 2 down, 3 to go!
