Whether you’re trying to impress a new crush, show your long-term boyfriend how much he means to you, or forget the holiday altogether, planning Valentine’s Day can be pretty nerve-wracking. HC Emory is here to help no matter what your status.
For the girlfriends…
Traditionally, guys take charge for the day, by showering you with flowers and chocolates or taking you out to your favorite romantic restaurant. How could this be anything but perfect? But it’s time for you to step up your game and surprise him with a special gesture of your own.
1. Find something personal and specific to your relationship.
Show him that you put some thought into it. For instance, if you choose to make him a romantic three-course dinner at your place, remember to include his favorite dish. Or if you opt for a post-dinner movie, refrain yourself from going to that Ashton Kutcher chick flick and suggest something more guy-friendly.
2. Bond by sharing an exciting experience that gets your adrenaline pumping.
Think back to your last psych or bio class…we all learned that adrenaline is released during emotional or exhilarating situations, and that its release increases sensitivity. Sharing an experience like this with your man will make you feel closer to him. Try something out of the ordinary like skydiving or organizing a swim with the fish at the Georgia Aquarium. Or if this doesn’t sound like your type of date, watch a scary movie together in theatres or at home.
3. Use your resources.
And no, we don’t mean take him to the DUC for brunch and call it a day. Atlanta is full of fun activities you can use to your advantage. If you think staring into the sky sounds romantic, consider visiting the Planetarium at Fernbank, or go to a fun show at the Fox Theatre.
For the single ladies…
If you’re riding solo this year, instead of moping around all day, gather your single friends and use it as an excuse to plan something fun.
1. Hit up the kitchen!
Any new recipes you’ve been dying to try? Have friends over to cook and eat dinner before a night of trivia games. And don’t forget to prepare a chocolate-y dessert!
2. Get tickets to a fun event.
If you’re feeling sporty, go catch the Hawks vs. Bobcats game down at Phillips Arena on the 12th.
3. Enjoy cocktails with the girls.
If you want an excuse to do something classy, then extend your Valentine’s Day celebration, shake it up, and head down to Fernbank for their weekly Friday Martinis and IMAX.
No matter how you choose to spend this Valentine’s Day, keep in mind that although it’s a day like any other, this holiday gives you an excuse to spend time with loved ones. Have fun!
