Honoring Music and Fashion Star, Etta James

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

In honor of Etta James’ recent passing, I am going to highlight some of the iconic looks from this magnificent star’s life.

Her bleach blonde hair and defined brows became her trademark style and she is known for her elegant wardrobe selections.  She was a fan of black dresses, sequins and metallic, and her choices were just as soulful and sultry as her warm voice.  She will forever be remembered and admired for her incredible talent.

In order to pay homage to this winner of six Grammys, play some of her incredible songs while dressing like a star. What you’ll need:
1) A fabulous hat.  Philip Treacy.  Song: Leave Your Hat On

2) A sexy ball gown – who said they had to be old fashioned? BCBG. Song: I Just Want to Make Love to You

3) A classy long dress inauguration style. Reem Acra. Song:  At Last

4) A fun glittery pair of heels – shimmy and shake. Steve Madden. Song: Tell Mama

5) A metallic jacket or vest – always a good way to spice up an ensemble! Flounce TBD jacket. Song: I’d Rather Go Blind

6) A mod patterned top. Jil Sander. Song: Trust in Me

Jessica lives her life at several speeds. She talks too fast, eats too slow and over-analyzes too much.  When she’s not telling long-winded stories, sitting alone at the dinner table, or staring off into space, Jessica loves all things creative. Screenwriter, play director and poet at age 9, songwriter and choreographer at age 16, now, at 23, all she really wants to do is write, help others, and post Instagrams.  As a social media coordinator for multiple fashion brands, and a post-grad writer for Her Campus, she gets to do just that. Jessica is a Midwestern girl from the suburbs of Chicago, but she fell in love with city living during a summer internship in the Big Apple, and now calls NYC home. Jessica loves chocolate milkshakes, dance parties, Chippewa Ranch Camp, Friends re-runs, Chuck Bass and of course, spending time with her fans (read: family and friends).
