As a freshman, I’ve probably got no right to complain about Emory. I mean, come on, I’ve been here for a
month. I don’t know the ins and outs of classes, I can’t compare teachers, I don’t know the best places to study, and I still don’t know who takes Dooley Dollars in the village.

But, here’s the thing—I’ve already got complaints about my school. Don’t get me wrong,  I love it. Everyone has welcomed me into the community that Emory is famous for. People are nice and don’t tell me what to do. So far, I’d say college life rocks.

I guess I’m more spoiled than I thought. It’s only been a few weeks and I find myself grumbling about the lines at the DUC, how slow Zaya’s service is, and the fact that there hasn’t been oatmeal or pita bread readily available in a couple of days. Whenever I walk into the WoodPEC, I roll my eyes at the fact that there are no towels for my workout on the elliptical.

It’s pretty obvious that these are small issues. Overall, Emory is above and beyond many other colleges worldwide. It’s beautiful, it’s challenging, and it’s unique. That doesn’t mean it’s perfect, though, and I’m not the only one who thinks so. Over the past week, Her Campus Emory has compiled a list of the things the freshman class thinks need to be improved.

Cash-to-change machine– we nee
d one on campus. It’s a little difficult to do laundry with no coins, and some of our parents just take too long to add money to our Emory cards. (Editors note: Freshman, there’s a change machine in the DUC)

Dining hours– there need to be more. There’s nothing worse than coming back from the gym and realizing
that the DUC is closing and you’ve already spent your Dooley Dollars for the week. It’s even worse when you realize that late-night and Woodruff are closed on the weekends—so much for chocolate chip pancakes after a frat party. (Editors note: they serve chocolate chip pancakes at Zaya)

School spirit– we need more! It’s not okay for students to rep other college’s just as much as they sport the Emory gold and blue.
