Emory Clinic’s 1st Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Festival!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

In order to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Emory Clinic (affiliated with the Winship Cancer Institute) is sponsoring the 1st Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Festival. Mary Brookhart, the supervisor of business operations and key member of the intake coordination team, is leading these efforts. On Tuesday, October 23rd, the clinic offered free breast examinations, provided food, and coordinated educational games. The clinic also extended its hours open this week, and will offer examinations this Saturday, October 27th from 8 AM to 3 PM at Emory University Hospital Midtown.

Bloomindale’s Lenox Square also hosted a Breast Cancer Research Fundraiser on Tuesday, October 23rd in which 10% of Bloomingdale’s purchases benefited the Glen n Family Breast Cancer Program at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.

If you missed out on these opportunities to promote breast cancer awareness, don’t worry…we have plenty of other options for you. Here are a few highlights:
• Sage Clothing Store (in Buckhead): Sage Clothing will be donating 50% of breast cancer awareness t-shirt purchases to Komen Atlanta. Visit their website for more information!

• J. Christopher’s: Throughout October, the J. Christopher’s Atlanta, Buckhead, Cobb and Alpharetta locations will donate $1 from every order of Pumpkin Pancakes and .50 from every pumpkin latte to Komen Atlanta. Get ready for fall and support Komen Atlanta in the process!

• STK Atlanta: During the month of October, STK added the “Pink Elegance” martini to their cocktail list and will donate $1 from each cocktail to breast cancer research.

• W Atlanta in Buckhead: On Tuesday, October 30th from 6:30-7:30 PM, Lululemon Athletica and W Atlanta will sponsor a yoga event on the WET Deck. Event attendees are encouraged to wear pink yoga gear and make a suggested donation of $5 to support the Pink Heals Foundation.

Jessica lives her life at several speeds. She talks too fast, eats too slow and over-analyzes too much.  When she’s not telling long-winded stories, sitting alone at the dinner table, or staring off into space, Jessica loves all things creative. Screenwriter, play director and poet at age 9, songwriter and choreographer at age 16, now, at 23, all she really wants to do is write, help others, and post Instagrams.  As a social media coordinator for multiple fashion brands, and a post-grad writer for Her Campus, she gets to do just that. Jessica is a Midwestern girl from the suburbs of Chicago, but she fell in love with city living during a summer internship in the Big Apple, and now calls NYC home. Jessica loves chocolate milkshakes, dance parties, Chippewa Ranch Camp, Friends re-runs, Chuck Bass and of course, spending time with her fans (read: family and friends).
