Begin Your Romance with Floral Patterns

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

Blooms continue to flourish on clothing and accessories for this spring.

They may not be groundbreaking, but they will forever be considered the embodiment of spring. These patterns are very familiar but never fall far from extraordinary. Around this time of the year, you can always count on a full floral fantasy to assure a smooth transition between seasons, and this spring is no different. Betting on a modern take on florals, this spring’s fashion trends mark the new dawn of femininity.

Be prepared to embrace your inner lady with floral print dresses, swimsuits, shoes, and even sunglasses. This season’s florals come in soft pastel colors and vibrant hues, all of which are some variation of the garden theme. Perhaps one would think that the floral prints are all about channeling the spring’s brighter spirit, often associated with lively patterns and cheerful colors. But if the past seasons taught us anything, is that the dark floral fantasies are equally able to represent the idea of rebirth, particularly when they are impressed on sheer fabrics and polished, yet feminine silhouettes.

If you’re not keen on approaching a head-to-toe floral look, this season offers plenty of equally stunning alternatives. Last year they were dipped in the sweetest pastel shades. This year, the pretty florals were painted in every color imaginable, though also retaining last season’s take on delicacy and subtlety. The bolder, the better, and the runways seemed to agree, choosing the vibrant florals to carefully redefine chic dresses or retro-inspired jumpsuits.

You can opt for lightweight fabrics, ladylike silhouettes, and relaxed cuts. The most delicate of floral prints will be perfectly matched by sheer panels, feminine beauty looks, and layerings of soft knits as the temperature drops. Dark florals can be worn with sleek hair and sporty details. This spring, try your deeply hued floral prints with easy sandals and minimal makeup.

Think about wearing clashing florals by recognizing that you don’t need anything else to make a patchwork of prints a statement. With the right dress featuring mismatched florals, you can simply add a chic pair of heels and nothing else. If you want to patch the look together yourself, look for mismatching prints in complimentary color ways so that they still go together well.

For those less willing to live in bloom all season long, the floral trend still continues from previous years with printed pants, mini-dresses, skirts, and everything else retailers can put a flower on. Florals are all about having fun with fashion and embracing the joy and romance of spring. Perhaps this is why the floral trend is one that just won’t go away.
