A personal tradition of mine is creating new playlists at the turn of every season. It’s a way for me to look back at music from different eras of my life, embrace the vibe of a particular season, and branch out into new songs and artists. With autumn officially underway, a new playlist was bound to follow suit. This year, I have chosen to title my playlist “Final Leaves”, because it’s my last fall semester in college. Here are some of the songs I have added to my 2026 fall playlist thus far.
“On Video” by Phoebe Bridgers
Phoebe’s songs are always going to find a place in my playlists, and with “On Video” being released on September 25th, this was a very timely addition. This song was created for the new drama “Primetime”, which was released in theatres the same day as the song’s release. In classic Phoebe fashion, this song has a rock vibe with powerful lyrics. Phoebe’s voice sounds both angelic and hard-hitting, another traditional element of her music. Even if this song wasn’t released in the fall, it would still find a spot on this playlist because of its overall sound and vibe, it just so happens that its release lined up perfectly with the new season!
“Ur” by SZA
There’s nothing better than taking long walks in the fall weather, and this song is the perfect backtrack for that activity. SZA has been a longtime favorite artist of mine, but I’ve recently been diving into her older music. This song in particular comes off of her third EP, “Z”. The beats on this track blend perfectly with SZA’s voice, and it feels like a breath of fresh air. This track is definitely a must listen to if you haven’t already.
“F**k” Me Eyes by Ethel Cain
Ethel Cain is the quintessential summer-to-fall artist. “F**k Me Eyes” could be the older, edgier twin sister to Taylor Swift’s album “Red.” Ethel Cain’s voice is one in a million, and the storytelling in this track, like many of her other songs, is all encompassing. This track screams fall vibes, and is great to listen to during any activity you do this season.
“Sunglasses” by Tinashe
Tinashe is most definitely having her “Brat summer” moment. Her entire new album, “Popstar” is filled with absolute bangers. “Sunglasses” is one of my favorites at the moment because it has everything a good pop song needs: a fun sounding intro, a memorable chorus, and a beat that makes you want to get up and dance. This song is perfect for the transition from summer to fall, and even though the sun is setting earlier and earlier, “Sunglasses” brings the fun back to the nighttime.
“In Violet” by Searrows
You can never—and I mean never—go wrong with a Searrows song. “In Violet” is a beautiful, melodic track that is all things autumn. Whether it’s the sound of his voice, or the acoustic guitar in the background, this song makes you forget about the chilling air outside and brings warmth all around. It’s calming and heartbreaking at the same time. Everything about this song is perfect.
“A Change of Heart” by The 1975
The fall is usually the start of new beginnings, especially if you are still in school. This song embodies just that. Its lyrics, beat, and overall vibe are a reminder of entering a new era and leaving an old one behind. The 1975 is truly wonderful at capturing the essence of autumn, and somehow, I keep landing on new songs in their discography that fit into my fall playlists. This song takes you through all of the emotions, much like this season can.
These are just a few of the many songs I have added to my fall playlist. I highly recommend making a seasonal playlist of your own; it can be a fun way to digitally scrapbook different times in your year. Maybe some of these songs will end up on your playlist soon!
