On October 2nd, 2020, Shawn Mendes blessed me with a new single, “Wonder.” Being a former obsessive Shawn Mendes super fan, I was very excited about this single and couldn’t wait to listen to it. But I’ve also heard his last album, which I loved so much, so I was WONDERing (see what I did there) whether this song and hopefully his album would be like his last one. This article is my review of Shawn Mendes’ new single ‘Wonder.’

Okay, just to clarify, I’m no musical genius. In fact, I’m pretty sure I have the worst taste in music ever, but if I like a song, it becomes a song that I would listen to over and over again, and this is one of those songs. When I first heard ‘Wonder,’ I didn’t really know if I liked it or not. When it comes to music, it takes a couple of time to listen to it for me to actually figure out whether I like it or not, which is what I did with ‘Wonder.’ After listening to it probably four or five times, I came to the conclusion that I really liked this song and here’s why.

The entire vibe of the song is very calm and it kind of made me feel like I was sitting on a boat being slowly moved by waves, feeling the breeze and listening to the sounds of the wind. Yes, I know that sounds crazy but that’s what it brought me back to. Even with the cover of the song, it’s so serene and you can definitely hear it in his voice, as well as the music.

Another reason I really truly liked this song was the lyrics. Shawn Mendes, in my opinion, has a way with words, that makes it so relatable for other people. I remember listening to ‘In My Blood’ for the first time, and although I was loving that catchy beat, I connected more to the lyrics of the song. For someone who struggles with anxiety on a daily basis, this song helped me know that I’m not the only one going through this. When I heard ‘Wonder,’ a lot of the lyrics were things that I resonated with. I feel like people have different experiences in life with different things so it could mean something different to different people. But one thing I really liked about this song is the realness of it. Sure, there are a lot of songs that can resonate with a person and be real, but this song is also one of them.

Overall, this may have been my way of professing my love for Shawn Mendes, but this is an amazing song, and I can’t wait to hear the rest of his album. I would also definitely recommend that if you haven’t heard it yet, check it out!
