To my freshman self,

I wouldn’t change anything about the last 4 years at Emmanuel College in Boston. But, after being the oldest in my house and having no one to talk to about going to college… here’s what I would tell freshman Liv:

  1. Friendships:

Friendships are there to be supportive and a positive in your life, not a problem. If it is stressful, drama filled, not making you feel your best self, or consists of always forcing your way for an invite, it is time to step back. You will meet so many people in college, so always keep an open and friendly mindset to all. Besides, everyone is here to meet new people and make friendships for life, so it is not just you in this playing field.

  1. Stay Organized:

I wish someone told me how organized you truly need to be in college. Between classes, homework, club meetings, work, planning events/dates with friends, and seeing family, you can loose track of one thing or another and fall behind. Buying a calender and writing down things you need to do every week like a checklist is super helpful. Sunday’s are your best friend. Get organized for the week while watching the Patriots game or The Bachelorette. Being on top of everything when you’re in college is one less stressful thing to think about.

  1. Adventure:

Adventure into every part of the city. There are so many hidden treasures in the city that need to be seen, past the Fenway area. Newbury Street, Southie, North End, The Commons, South End, and Seaport, all wonderful and fun places to experience in the time that you can call Boston your home. Try new things and be up for something different because you never know what memories you’ll make.

  1. YOU:

You’re living on your own so you have to take care of yourself. You have to get yourself up in the morning for classes. You have to make sure your eating enough for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You have make sure your working/exercising. You are in charge of doing your homework, going to bed at a decent hour and doing what you need to do in order to make a happy life on campus for the next 4 years.

  1. Have fun:

This is your first chance to experience college and living it to the fullest. I am one to always say this, but the memories you make will be the memories you keep forever. These years are created by you and only you, so make sure you are doing hobbies and other things that you enjoy. Don’t be scared of the unknown as it can be the best medicine for you to take on these next four years. It is a chance to find yourself and continue to grow into the person you will become!
