To all my fellow twenty-something college gals, I know it seems like everyone around you is coupled up and especially approaching the holidays, you feel incredibly lonely with your single status, but honestly this isn’t a bad thing. Some people find love earlier in life than others and while there is nothing wrong with that, I am a firm believer that right now, in the roaring excitement of your twenties, this is your prime time. So, if you’re “single af” and feeling down about it, check out these five reasons and learn why you’re actually right where you are supposed to be.
1. Still kids at heart?
As countless psychologists and mental health specialists have said, the adolescent brain fully develops at the age of 25, this means in a lot of ways most of us are still children. Though we may be very adult and mature in many ways, our brain is still growing so, take this time to let yourself mature. Even though lessons of adulthood are not always fun or glamorous, they are so important. Get on the #adulting trend and further strengthen yourself as an independent woman.
2. Young, Dumb & Self-discovery
You’ve heard it a thousand times before, “your twenties are the best years of your life” and there is actually a lot of truth in this statement. This time in your life, while still growing, is literally the perfect time to really “live it up”, gain important experiences and maybe practice impulsivity from time to time. Balance out #adulting with practicality and take advantage of the opportunity to experience life and learn more about yourself.
3. Focus on your career and education
Ladies, while in the process of figuring out who you are, in addition to having fun, let’s also enjoy this time in college for all the awesome academic purposes. Apply for that internship, you’ve had your eye on. Spend the extra time on that class project you’re passionate about and keep finding ways to build yourself up as an intelligent and successful woman.
4. Fries before guys!
Probably one of my favorite catch phrases, I think we can all agree that food, hands down, beats the drama dating at this age. Although there are some rare guys out there, more mature than their friends, for the most part the level of drama and immaturity can be overwhelming. So, get off of Tinder and go treat yourself to some french fries.
5. Boost your confidence!
Ladies, every single one of you is a strong and independent woman and it is 100% okay to embrace that. Get lit when “single ladies” comes on and strut your stuff! You’re amazing! EMBRACE IT!
These are just a few of the thousands of reasons that right now, being single, is the best place for you to be. You can achieve everything you’ve set your heart to with incredible talent and style and you can do so without depending on the affirming love of a man. Love yourself first and I promise that when you do that, everything else will fall into place.
