5 Reasons to Live in Stockholm

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emmanuel chapter.

Over the summer I had the privilege to travel around Europe with my family. We went to five countries; Saint Petersburg in Russia, Tallinn in Estonia, Riga in Latvia, Stockholm in Sweden and Helsinki in Finland. We spent about three days in each city and traveled by plane, train and automobile in between! After visiting Stockholm, I am pretty confident that this is one of the best places in Europe to visit and here is why I loved it and want to live there someday.

1. First off Stockholm is breathtakingly beautiful and a huge city. 1.5 million people live in the city with many different neighborhoods.

2. The oldest parts of the city, in the Gamla Stan Old Town, is one of the best preserved and largest medieval city centers in Europe. Personally I believe all the best European cities have an old city center.

3. They have a whole neighborhood dedicated to parks and museums. Djurgården used to be known as Kungliga Djurgården or the King’s Garden but now holds monuments, galleries, the amusement park Gröna Lund and an open-air museum, Skansen.

4. The ABBA museum. Do I even need to explain? Since ABBA the band is a Swedish group, a museum in Djugården only seems appropriate. The museum is also interactive so I got to sing and dance as if i was apart of the band.

5. Stockholm is known for their innovation in design, architecture, engineering; especially when it comes to their dedication to eco-friendly lifestyle. Their passion for sustainable living is quite inspirational.

Not only is Stockholm a big beautiful European city but it beautifully combines the old medieval history of the city with modern sustainability.
