10 Things You Can Do to Keep Busy While Social Distancing

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emmanuel chapter.

Believe me, I know you’re struggling to keep busy. Right now you’re probably wondering how on earth you are going to entertain yourself with all of this newfound free time on your hands. Lucky for you, I have some options for you to choose from.

Have a paint night

This is one my sister and I are going to be doing this weekend! Not only are paint nights relatively inexpensive but they are a great way to pass some time. There’s nothing more relaxing and distracting than painting a picture. Everyone needs to have a creative outlet during this tough time, and painting is a great option. You’re not good at painting? No problem! There are a multitude of youtube tutorials that can guide you along your painting journey! Just think of the pretty picture you are your mom can hang on the wall after!

Read a book

I know what you’re thinking. “I already do so much reading for school, why would I want to read more?” Trust me on this one, there is absolutely nothing that can pass time faster than reading a good book. Books transport us to other worlds and take us on adventures. You’ll feel like you left the house, all without leaving your bed!

Binge a show

I’m sure you already thought of this one, but just in case you didn’t! There is no shortage of free shows to fill your time watching. I know there’s a fair few I still haven’t seen. So get some hot chocolate, curl up on the couch, and start binging!

Do some yoga!

Not only will doing some yoga take up time, but it will also help to relax you. Seriously, the amount of yoga I have done over the past week is astronomical! Yoga is my favorite way to exercise, mostly because it doesn’t feel like exercise to me. If it’s ever something you thought about trying, now is the time!

Exercise

It’s more important now than ever to stay active as it would be only too easy to sit in our beds and do nothing. But trust me, doing some exercise will make you feel loads better! Even better, you can justify laying down and not moving afterward!

Learn a language

Most of us are all too familiar with that darn Duolingo owl. Well, he’s about to become your best friend! What better time to learn a language than when you’re stuck in your house with absolutely nothing else to do!

Play a game

A few nights a week, my family and I have a game night. This takes up hours of our night and is filled with laughter and trash talking. It’s my favorite part of the week and helps me to forget the turmoil around us for a few hours.

Clean your room

I already know you have stuff in your room you could get rid of…I know I do! So, now’s the time to finally clean your room. This will surely take you the whole day, if not multiple days. But hey, you were bored anyway right?

Listen to a podcast

I am fairly new to the world of podcasts but even I know there is no shortage of them out there. They pretty much have one for every subject you could think of. You could no doubt find one that interests you. My favorite thing about podcasts is that you can listen to them while doing something else, like cleaning your room!

Get ahead on your homework

Okay, this should probably be first on the list, but we’re all looking for fun things to do instead of school work. However, there is nothing that takes up more time than your studies and lucky for us, there is no shortage of work to do. So, if you’ve exhausted every other option on this list, it’s time to get down to business.

I hope these tips help you fill your time while social distancing. Once you’ve completed this list, you can rinse and repeat!
