So there I stood, in front of my one carry-on bag for spring break, not sure how I could possibly fit every article of clothing into the tiny little bag. How could I bring a week’s worth of outfits that could fit every social occasion I’d undoubtedly be attending? Enter Fashion Mixology, a do-it-yourself challenge made popular by the blog “A Beautiful Mess.” The concept is simple: Take eight pieces of clothing (dresses, pants, tops, etc) and shuffle them into eight different outfits! (Shoes, accessories, and coats don’t count.) In an attempt to have all of my clothes fit in that small, small little roll-away, I decided to do this challenge for spring break. Here are my results!
I started with my eight pieces, as shown below.
Modcloth print dress
American Eagle skinny jeans
Gap cardigan
Urban Outfitter printed v-neck
Modcloth solid color dress
Francesca’s skirt
Wet Seal blazer
Zumiez black v-neck
With that, I started remixing!

Whew! So there you have it – eight pieces, eight outfits. I really saw a change in the way I styled my clothes once I started this exercise. Before, I had never thought of wearing my dresses so many ways – putting a shirt over them, or tucking them into a separate skirt. The most helpful thing I found was to mostly keep to basic pieces with the chosen eight, so I let myself go wild with accessories (the looks I got with Outfit Six were priceless). This is a great challenge to try if you feel your wardrobe getting stagnant – or, if you don’t have the carry-on space! Best of luck with your remixing!
