YA Book Releases to Keep on Your Radar This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

Fall is here! The leaves are changing colors, Pumpkin Spice is finally back at Starbucks, and sweaters are finally wearable without feeling like you are melting. What better way to celebrate the upcoming season by curling up with a new Young Adult release? There are so many new books that I am unbelievably hyped for, and I can’t wait to share my excitement with you!

Full Disclosure by Camryn Garrett

This book is actually the only book on this list I have been able to read already because I received an Advanced Reader’s Copy from a book convention I went to. Y’all…THIS BOOK. You are going to want to preorder it or buy it on release day. Full Disclosure follows a teenager named Simone who is HIV-positive and has been forced to keep her diagnosis under wraps due to the relentless bullying from peers. Things are not so easy when she meets Miles, a guy from her school who she can’t help but fall for. This book is SO SO IMPORTANT, and I can’t wait for everyone to have this book in their hands. Full Disclosure will be released October 29, 2019. It can be pre-ordered on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or your favorite bookstore.

SLAY by Brittney Morris

SLAY follows a young girl named Kiera Johnson. On the outside, she seems like a completely average private school smart cookie. At night, she logs online to the multi-player card game that she developed herself. After an incident occurs, Kiera’s online game’s integrity is in question. I haven’t read too many video game related books, so I am super excited to dive into this one. SLAY was released September 24, 2019. It can be purchased on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or your favorite bookstore.

The Foundations of Silence by Ruta Sepetys

In case you’re tired of the typical contemporary YA novel, let me introduce you to Ruta Sepetys! Ruta is a Young Adult author, but all of her novels are historical fiction. The Foundations of Silence takes place during the dictatorship of General Francisco Franco of Spain. I’m not normally a historical fiction gal, but Ruta Sepetys knows how to write! Even if you aren’t into historical fiction, I would 100% recommend keeping this book and this author on your radar. The Foundations of Silence was released October 1, 2019. It can be purchased on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or your favorite bookstore.

Sick Kids In Love by Hannah Moskowitz

If you were a fan of The Fault in Our Stars or even Everything, Everything, here’s a recommendation for you! Sick Kids In Love follows a girl named Isabel living with rheumatoid arthritis. In order to save herself from getting hurt, she has one rule: no dating. Everything changes, though, when she meets a guy who is the only one who can understand her because he too has a chronic illness. Sick Kids In Love will be released November 5, 2019. It can be pre-ordered on Amazon, Barnes & Nobile, or your favorite bookstore.

It’s a Whole Spiel by Various YA Authors

If you are a frequent YA reader, you may recognize a few of these author names. If not, no worries! It’s time to discover some new favorites! It’s a Whole Spiel is an anthology  focused on Jewish authors talking about diverse Jewish identities through the individual stories. Honestly, I am super excited for this #ownvoices collection, and I know I will love it! It’s a Whole Spiel was released September 17, 2019. It can be purchased on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or your favorite bookstore.

Olivia is a sophomore Writing, Literature, and Publishing major at Emerson College. At any given moment, you can find her talking about books on her blog, petting dogs in the Boston Common, or impulse buying a plant or two. Ask her what musical she is currently listening to; she's dying to tell you.
