Still Got Tan Lines? No Worries!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

Most girls kick off the summer with one mission: get a fabulous tan. We all love lounging by the pool or at the beach, checking beneath our bathing suit straps to see how much color we’ve gotten. But there’s a downfall to a natural-looking tan, and that’s the blatant tan lines that reveal what we’ve been up to. Bathing suit strap lines annoy most people. Others can’t stand the bikini triangle marks or the paleness of their bottoms. There are many ways to avoid these dreaded tan lines, but do the tan lines even matter as much as we think?

New products have come out to help get rid of tan lines – products such as CoolTans, bathing suits that allow UV rays through the suit for an all over tan. Tanning booths and tanning beds also allow us to get an all over tan because you can be in them completely in the nude. There are also new lotions, sprays, and pills that can be used for an almost all over tan. Beware though: there are health risks to all of these products. It is possible to turn an awful shade of orange, be covered in hives, or even get cancer from some of these products.

This dilemma with tan lines spurs a question: are the people we are intimate with just as bothered by our tan lines? After posing this question on Facebook there was no debate over the answer. 85% of people that responded to this question said no, when they are intimate with someone the other person’s tan lines do not bother them. Only 6% of people said yes, tan lines bother them and 9% of people said they did not know. According to GuySpeak.com lovers are more worried about screwing up and pleasuring the other person than what the other persons tan lines look like.

So do not worry about letting your tan lines show. Based on the Facebook question results and what men and women think about during sex, your partner will not care and could possibly not even notice. Just remember, you are your toughest critic. Who knows? Maybe the person you are with will even like your tan lines.
