The holidays can be a pretty stressful time of the year, especially when you’re trying to find the perfect present for each of your friends and family! Here are a few tips on how to get organized before the holiday rush truly sets in.

1. Set your budget now

College students are known for being financially strapped. Figure out how much you are willing and able to spend on presents this season before you get caught up in all the excitement. More importantly, remember to stick to this budget when you head out to the mall.

2. Prioritize

Make a list of who you absolutely need to buy a present for, i.e. close family members and friends, significant others, etc. Make finding a gift for the special people in your life a priority, and focus your time and money on them.

3. Brainstorm

Start thinking about what you want to buy each person on your list, and jot down the ideas before you forget. Keep the list in your phone for easy access should an idea strike you as you go about your day.

4. Prep your D.I.Y. gifts

D.I.Y. presents are a thoughtful and inexpensive option for gift-giving. Decide what you might want to create and make sure you have all the supplies to create your gifts way ahead of time. Start crafting as soon as possible, and think about creating a few extra items in case you accidentally leave someone off your list!

5. Plan your time

Someone brings it up every year, but don’t leave your shopping until the last minute! Many ties and drawer organizers have been purchased this way! Know when you are going to shop and think about bringing a friend along to keep you on task and budget.

Most importantly, remember that presents are not the most important part of the holidays. Whether you spend hundreds of dollars this season or just write out a few cards, the important thing is showing those you love you care in whatever way you can.
