“What’s Galentine’s Day? Oh, it’s only the best day of the year.” – Leslie Knope

If you watch Parks and Recreation, you definitely know about Galentine’s Day. Leslie Knope, the show’s main character, introduced this holiday to us during the second season as a day of ladies celebrating ladies. You have to leave your boyfriends at home and take a day to celebrate the people who are really there for you. Mark your calendars: Galentine’s Day is February 13!

Though we can’t join Leslie and her awesome group of girls, we do all have our own great group of friends. Whether you’re single or taken, make sure you spend time with your girls on Galentine’s Day. Here are some fun ways to celebrate:

Breakfast for Dinner

Leslie’s Galentine’s Day tradition is to kick it breakfast style with her lady friends. February 13th is on a Friday this year, so if you’re lucky enough to not have classes or work, head on over to the closest breakfast joint in town. (Replace Parks and Rec’s JJ’s Diner with The Paramount if you’re in Boston!)

Girls Night In

Instead of going out to a party, hang out with your girls in your dorm room or apartment. Order take-out, get wine and some type of dessert, pick out a movie, and curl up with your best friends. School takes up a lot of time and sometimes you don’t get to see your friends as much as you want. Take this time to catch up on everything you’ve missed!

Girls Night Out

Pick your favorite restaurant in town and make a reservation. The best part about going to dinner with your friends is that you don’t have to worry about getting spaghetti sauce on your face or spilling. After dinner, head over to the movie theater and see something you are too embarrassed to see with anyone else. (Fifty Shades of Grey, anyone?) That’s what best friends are for.

Now, you don’t have to pull a Leslie and and write a personalized 5,000-word essay about why your friends are great, but you should spend quality time with them. That’s what Galentine’s Day is all about!
