Galentine’s Day! How to Throw Your Own

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

Whether or not you’re a Parks and Recreation fan, you’ll love “Galentine’s Day,” the holiday where ladies celebrate ladies. Galentine’s Day, an event invented by Parks and Recreation’s main character Leslie Knope, is a pre-Valentine’s Day brunch where lady friends leave their boyfriends and husbands behind to “kick it breakfast-style.”

Here’s how to put together your own “Lillith Fair – Angst + Frittatas” this February 13th.

1.) Invite your most fabulous lady friends together – no boys allowed! Today is all about the power of girl friendship.

2.) Provide delicious breakfast food, preferably waffles.

3.) The giving of gifts! The traditional Galentine’s Day gifts are:

            a.) a bouquet of hand-crocheted flower pens.

b.) a mosaic portrait of each fabulous lady’s face made from the crushed bottles of their favorite diet soda.

c.) a personalized 5,000 word essay on why that lady is awesome.

If you’re not quite as adept with crushed can art as Ms. Knope, acceptable substitute gifts for your Galentine’s Day party include: a bouquet of flowers, a personalized craft project that reflects your gal, and a handmade card that tells your lady what makes her so special to you.

4.) The telling of tales! Feel free to share stories, particularly those of the romantic persuasion. Remember, we’re not hating on the men, just celebrating the women! Girl talk should abound.

Remember to spread the glory of Galentine’s Day with your girl friends this year and make Leslie Knope proud!
