Five Shows You Don’t Want to Miss in Boston This Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

One of the best parts about living in Boston is the exposure to the arts. There are so many concerts, museums, and shows to take advantage of in the Greater Boston area, and many of them are a short T-ride away! If you’re lost on what to see exactly, here are five suggestions on shows to see!

Gloria: A Life

A new play about powerful women fighting for equality? Sign me UP! Gloria: A Life at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge discusses the work of Gloria Steinem and all of the women who she worked with through her activism. While this show is reflective of the trailblazers for feminism and equal rights, it also focuses on the audience and current issues at play with a 20 minute Act II discussion. This is the perfect production to see to inspire you to be the best you can be as you continue strong through the semester. Gloria: A Life is running at the American Repertory Theatre now through March 1st. Tickets can be purchased here

The Band’s Visit

Boston is a common spot for touring Broadway shows to make a stop, and The Band’s Visit is no exception. The ten time Tony Award winning show follows a series of events when a band from Egypt ends up in the wrong town in Israel. It’s a simple yet wonderful show; you definitely don’t want to miss it. The Band’s Visit will be at the Boston Opera House from March 24-April 5. Tickets can be purchased here

Our Daughters, Like Pillars

If you’re looking for a moving yet fun night out at the theatre, look no further than to Our Daughters, Like Pillars! The Huntington Theatre Company is constantly bringing in new and thought-provoking works, and this production will be no different. When the main character, Lavina, invites her sisters and mother to a getaway in New Hampshire, it’s guaranteed to be a grand time. However, her stepmother comes unannounced causing pre-existing family tensions to bubble up. Our Daughters, Like Pillars sounds like a hilarious, yet touching new work, and I am so thrilled to see it. Our Daughters, Like Pillars will be at The Huntington Theatre Company from March 20-April 19. Tickets can be purchased here.

She the People

After two successful runs in Chicago and Toronto, She the People is now being presented at The Huntington Theatre Company. This show is in comedy sketch style and features an entire women-centered cast and crew. While it ran in Chicago, both the Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Tribune praised it, solidifying it as a must-see this Spring. She the People is at The Huntington Theatre Company now through March 8. Tickets can be purchased here.

Plaza Suite

If you’re particularly interested in catching some shows before they hit Broadway, you definitely don’t want to miss Plaza Suite! This is the first time Plaza Suite has been revived since the late 1960s, and Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are starring in it as a not-so happily married couple staying in the NYC Plaza Hotel. This one has already been getting some serious buzz from Boston and New York crowds, so get your tickets before they’re all gone! Plaza Suite is at the Emerson Colonial Theatre now through February 22. Tickets can be purchased here

Olivia is a sophomore Writing, Literature, and Publishing major at Emerson College. At any given moment, you can find her talking about books on her blog, petting dogs in the Boston Common, or impulse buying a plant or two. Ask her what musical she is currently listening to; she's dying to tell you.
