As college students, food is always on our minds. Every student goes through the struggle of not wanting to go to the Dining Hall, as well as not wanting to go out and buy food. Getting hangry is a serious issue! Here are some simple bites every college student should know how to make.
Grilled Cheese
C’mon, you’re in college, and what would college be without some comfort food? A grilled cheese with American cheese, and maybe some avocado or tomato, can satisfy your late-night cravings and leave you satisfied.
Eggs
Eggs are an amazing, easy go-to meal that can be cooked in many different ways, packed with protein, and can be eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner! There are so many ways you can make eggs; scrambled, on toast, and omelets are just a few. You can even make your own breakfast burrito with scrambled eggs, a tortilla and maybe a few veggies!
Salad
Salad is one of the easiest meals to make. Throw in some spinach, tomato and feta cheese with some balsamic for a filling lunch. If you’re not a “salad person”, try putting some strawberries, sliced almonds, apples, oranges, grapes or walnuts in!
Whole Wheat French Toast
Want a warm breakfast on those cold winter days? French toast is easy to make and will fill you up. Mix some eggs and cinnamon together and dunk your whole grain or whole wheat bread in. Then, place the bread into a pan. For some sweetness, add a dab of honey or maple syrup on top with a side of some berries.
Macaroni and Cheese
Mac and cheese takes less than 30-minutes to make, and will definitely leave you pleased. Get some cheddar cheese (be sure to shred it), heavy cream and any shape of pasta, and enjoy! Who doesn’t love cheesy comfort food?
Smoothies
Got a blender? Then you’re in luck! You can make a smoothie out of anything; throw in some of your favorite fruits with some low-fat yogurt. You can even put kale in your smoothies! Add some chia seeds in for some real health benefits. If you’re looking for a dessert, embrace Fall and get some vanilla yogurt and pumpkin puree, blend it all together and stick it in the freezer for a bit, and then you have a milkshake!
Avocado Toast
There is no excuse not to make avocado toast. Avocado toast can be eaten as breakfast, lunch or a mid-study snack. Grab one or two pieces of whole wheat bread, put the bread into the toaster, and smash up some avocado on top! For some extra zest, put a little cracked pepper on top of the avocado.
Pita Pizza
Everyone loves pizza. Grab some whole-wheat pita bread, marinara sauce, and mozzarella cheese for a tasty home-cooked treat!
