A daytrip outside of Boston: Rockport, Mass.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

A slew of colors
Embark on adventures, full
of discovery.

A recent trip on the commuter rail to the small town of Rockport, Mass., just north of Boston, showed me a part of New England I had yet to see. The town is set right on the coast and centers around fishing boats, shops, and color—lots and lots of color.

My long-distance boyfriend from Texas had come to Boston to visit me for the first time, and I was looking for a great daytrip outside of the Bean. It was such a refreshing break from the energetic city and busy college life, and it offered a different perspective of the Northeast, in general. If you’re looking to get out of the city, this is the spot.

Although it was still pretty cold when I visited, I can only imagine the vibrant activity that accentuates sunny summer days here. This town is filled with gems just waiting to be discovered. From the many art galleries that display locals’ works, to the intriguing merchandise at the Dark Star Philosophia Shop, to the inviting atmosphere of Bean & Leaf Café, which has gorgeous window views of the ocean, the seaside village is a perfect getaway for this spring. Breath-taking scenery, interesting people, colorful art, and the coast—What’s not to love?!

She is co-web director for Emerson's lifestyle magazine and a social media intern at Children's Hospital Boston. She previously was a city desk co-op at The Boston Globe and a news intern at The New Haven Register and Hersam Acorn Newspapers in Connecticut. She enjoys drinking too many macchiatos, singing loudly when no one's listening, dancing whenever possible, and learning how to cook a mean tomato sauce (slowly but surely). After graduating in May, Shana would love to manage and write web content for a company in Massachusetts or Connecticut, where her family lives.
