Dance Wear Alternatives to Sloppy Sweats: Unleashing Your Inner Ballerina

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

We all have been there: It’s 7:30 am, you have half an hour to get ready for class, you’re half awake and you look like a hot mess. You want to look cute, but those yoga pants and your favorite “Emerson” hoody are calling your name. As comfy as sweats and leggings are, they’re not always visually appealing. Dancewear puts a fashionable spin on traditional work out/comfy clothes. Here are some great options if you’re looking to show-off your inner ballerina:

Jazz Pants

Leggings and yoga pants can cling in some not-so-flattering ways while jazz pants tend to flare at the bottom and leave a little more room up top. Capezio’s Jazz Pants are affordable, super comfy, and look surprisingly similar to black slacks. They put a formal spin on your favorite yoga pants.

Leotard Look-Alikes

If you’re looking for a go-to top, pinch-front tops are an appealing alternative to nomal tanks. A cross between a leotard and a tank top, they’re tight enough to give you that ballerina-esque body, but breathable enough to allow you to move like one. Balera’s pinch-front tops are well-priced and come in a variety of fun solids. Just throw on a cardigan and you’re ready to go!

Speaking of cardigans…

If your knitwear collection is looking ragged, try out Bloch’s Major League Zippered Jacket. It’s asymmetrical front gives it a super-modern feel, and it’s a great way to complete your stylish yet comfy ensemble!

Then there’s hair…

The messy bun is a tempting hair-do for early mornings, but why not jazz it up a bit? Capezio’s accessory line Bunheads makes a great flamingo hair clip to give your blasé bun the boost of glam it needs. With this finishing touch you’ll have created a comfy yet stylish look just in time for class!
