This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

Name: Pilar Duralde

Major: Writing for Film and Television

YOG: Spring 2017

Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia

Relationship Status: Single

What got you interested in writing for film and TV and Emerson? It was my cousin’s second choice and I only visited because of that. At first I didn’t think this was a practical career path so I was looking at schools for psychology, but once I got here I was like, ‘what? You can get a job in writing? I can be employed for that? Sign me up!’ Originally I was looking at WLP but then I realized I was better at writing dialogue and my obsession for movies wasn’t a normal thing. I thought that everyone wanted to go to the movies all the time because they are so great and everyone must love them as much as I do but apparently not. Also I love Boston.

What are some of your favorite TV shows? I tend to fall in love with shows that are done, so Gilmore Girls, Sex in the City, and Daria. On TV still, Project Runway and How To Get Away With Murder. There is so much TV I love to watch.

If you could write for one TV show, what would it be? I’m currently writing a SPEC script for Bob’s Burgers, so I’d have to say Bob’s Burgers. Definitely a fun show.

What orgs are you involved in? A lot with Fashion Society, Emerson Channel, Amigos, and I’m a volunteer for the VPR center.

What’s the best part about being from Georgia? The food, for sure. And it’s such a hospital, kind place, so it is very homey.

How many sweaters do you own? I don’t know. They fill up two of my drawers here and I have some stuffed in the closet. I have a lot.

Tell me about your summer job. I worked at Preserving Place, which is this small business that has only been open a year. The whole idea is farm to store type production. We would make the preserves and jams ourselves, we hosted canning classes, we had only locally grown ingredients, no high fructose corn syrup, we used slow cooking old-fashioned methods, it was great. Now I have an extensive knowledge of jams, and I love that about myself.

What’s your favorite kind of jam? I am really all about white peach preserve. Heat that up and put it on ice cream, unreal.

Do you have any hobbies? I love making preserves, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and eating. I am a fan of eating, a big fan. Huge even!

What is your favorite part of Emerson? The people. I think it is a real strong community and everyone is supportive and passionate. Everyone wants to be here, they have direction, they’re fun to be around, and they’re the realest. I’m into that.
