The Best Subscription Services for College Students

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

Everyone has probably had a monthly subscription at one point in their life (Netflix, anyone?). The problem is, sometimes they can be hard to manage on a college student’s budget. Here’s my list of my favorite subscriptions that are worth every penny.

1.) Spotify Student

Spotify saves lives. You can save almost any song in existence, download them for offline listening, and choose which song you want to listen to on demand, as opposed to a free subscription, which only lets you shuffle music. The best part of the student subscription is that it’s only $4.99 a month AND it includes access to Hulu. That’s two in one, all for about half off the price that just one of these services would cost you normally.

2.) Moviepass

Moviepass is an iconic Emerson staple. All bitterness aside about Moviepass removing access to the Loews, it’s a great way to see movies without spending an obscene amount of money on a ticket. For $9.95 a month, you can see one standard movie a day. It even lets you see movies on opening night! Considering most movie tickets cost more than $10 these days, it’s a pretty worthwhile investment.

3.) Amazon Prime

Amazon is a dangerous place. It’s the online equivalent of Target, where you go online to buy one thing and end up with four obscure kitchen tools in your cart. Prime is amazing mostly because of its free two-day shipping, and sometimes eligible orders can even arrive the same day or the next day. As a student, you can sign up for a six month free trial, after which Prime is $6.49 a month instead of the usual $12.99. You can also stream music and videos as well as having access to a ton of free ebooks and audiobooks.

4.) Ipsy

There’s a ton of beauty-centered subscription services out there, but I highly recommend Ipsy. For only $10, you can receive a monthly “Glam Bag” with five beauty products, either in a sample size or even a full size. You can personalize your profile to say what hair, skin, and eye color you have, as well as your level of expertise with makeup, skin concerns, and favorite colors, brands, and types of products. It’s a great way to treat yourself to some new makeup, haircare, and skincare without going overboard.
