It’s that time of year when the weather turns from warm and bright to cold and wintry. It may only be fall now, and while the air is alive with the crunch of autumn leaves, it’s beginning to come scarily close to winter weather. In summer, any and every color is easy and accessible to wear; in fall the hues get darker, but once winter comes the streets are seas of monotone greys and blacks with people hiding in oversized coats. As the seasons change there are a few tricks you can use to add not only that necessary pop of color, but some life into your outfits.
1. Try a pastel colored coat
Oversized and long winter coats leave room for layering so they won’t sacrifice warmth. Try dusty rose or a powdered blue to add some color into your outerwear.
2. Go for a patterned or colored scarf
Scarves add an incredible amount of warmth, and add texture to any outfit. If you have a jacket in a basic color pick out a scarf that stands out and have it poke out of your jacket. Go even further with a fun, colored hat or ear muffs to keep your head stylishly warm.
3. Pick up a colored purse
Use a purse in a color that maybe you thought was only for the summer. Try a mint green or a burgundy as a simple and convenient way to give your outfit color. You could even try tying a colored scarf on one of your handbags.
4. Put on some colored pants
Swap a pair of classic blue denim jeans with a dark grey or burgundy. You could even try a pair of leather leggings; you’ll stay warm, look great and be comfortable.
As we move into the colder season it becomes easy to hide ourselves in layers of darkly-colored clothing to match the weather. Don’t fall into this trap; instead try to stand out simply by adding color into your winter outerwear.
