9 Things to Do in Boston at Night if You are Under 21

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

Need to get off campus for the night, but under 21? Fortunately, Emerson students have the entire city of Boston in their backyard, which has plenty of fun places to go besides bars.

1. Machine

For years Machine has been a staple on the Boston club scene, thanks to its convenient Boylston Street location. Even though Machine is a gay club, it attracts a sizable straight crowd on Friday nights when it’s 18 plus.

2. Insomnia Cookies

Can’t sleep? Open from 1pm-3am on weekends, Insomnia Cookies is the perfect place for a late night snack. They specialize in cookies and have two locations in the Greater Boston area, one on Commonwealth Ave and another in Harvard Square.

3. Rise

Rise is an after hours club, open from 1 am- 6am on weekends. Due to its unconventional hours they do not serve alcohol, making is accessible for the under 21 crowd.

4. Other Colleges

Boston is a city full of colleges, so don’t miss out events at other universities! Whether it’s a party or a musical performance, make sure to take advantage of the other campuses in and around Boston.

5. Improv Asylum

If you need a laugh, check out the Improv Asylum located on 216 Hanover St in Boston. Improv Asylum is a comedy theatre that does sketch and improv performances, and most of the shows are 18 plus. They feature plenty of raunchy humor at night, perfect for a college-aged crowd.

6. The Middle East

Located in Central Square, the Middle East hosts bands and other musical performers. All the shows are 18 and up, and they feature a lot of local and upcoming bands. Plus they serve food!

7. Sheesha Lounge

Sheesha is hookah bar in Allston, offering a variety of tobacco smoking options in a relaxing environment. It’s the perfect Friday night spot after a stressful week! They are very popular though, so be prepared to have to to wait.

8. Lucky Strike

Lucky Strike has combined the idea of a bar and a bowling alley into one place. While you may not be able to take advantage of the bar aspect, that doesn’t mean you can’t go bowling with friends! Plus what is more fun than watching other people bowl drunk? I honestly cannot think of anything funnier.

9. Bova’s

Is it 2am and you are craving a cannoli? Well you’re in luck, because Bova’s is a family run bakery that’s open 24 hours! Famous for their delicious pastries and bread, Bova’s is in the North End and only a short walk from campus.

No more excuses to be stuck at home on a Friday or Saturday night binging on Netflix. Get out there and have fun!
