6 Free Things to do in Boston This Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.
With spring in the air and summer looming, we all are waking up from our winter induced hibernation and ready to be active. We want to go outside, be social, and just do things. But what can we do for free in an expensive city like Boston?

Idea Number One: A Picnic
Now that it is finally getting warmer we can enjoy the nice weather. What better way to do this than grabbing a blanket, a pair of sunglasses, and a to-go meal from the dining hall? The best part of a picnic is you can do it with your friends for breakfast, lunch, or dinner! Just sit outside and socialize.

Idea Number Two: Outdoor Games/Sports
Being a student from Emerson College gives us the perfect location to go outside and play some games. We have the Public Garden and the Commons right across the street! Find a frisbee or a soccer ball and just go outside. There are even people usually willing to play already on the Commons if your friends are too busy.

Idea Number Three: Go on an Adventure
We live in Boston—one of the cleanest, safest cities in the country! Go out and explore a new area. Go check out the shops past Berkeley or explore the South End. Go where you’ve never gone before. You could even do work on your excursion. Since we are a film and communications heavy school there are always videos, pictures, and interviews that need to be done. So why not go out somewhere new to accomplish these projects?

Idea Number Four: Walk the Boston Esplanade
It’s longer than you think! The Boston Esplanade is actually about six miles long. You could exercise, play in a park, or just enjoy the scenery of the Charles.

Idea Number Five: Visit the MFA
The MFA is totally free as long as you have your Emerson ID. They are constantly having different exhibits and new artwork. It’s definitely something fun that you can make your whole day out of.

Idea Number Six: Geocaching
It’s completely free and you can win prizes! Geocaching is like a treasure hunt through the city that you use your smartphone for. You find a container and inside is some type of prize. It’s a great way to spend a few hours with some friends.

So everyone get out there and enjoy your spring before the heat waves of summer get you!
