It’s almost that time of year! Temperatures are dropping, leaves are falling, and our favorite coffee shops are pulling out their seasonal hot beverages. And while we love to grab a Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks between class, there’s something especially nice about escaping the cold for a couple hours and snuggling in a cute local coffee shop for some hot cocoa. Lucky for you, we have the lowdown on the best hidden gem coffee shops in Boston, perfect for your holiday caffeine fix!

1. Pavement Coffeehouse
Not only is Pavement one of our favorite Boston shops, but it made Daily Meal’s list of “Top 50 Coffee Shops in America!” With a “gritty vibe” and “warm and inviting ambiance,” Pavement Coffeehouse sounds like the perfect getaway for Emersonians. Their signature drink? A Spanish Latte. They also sell a variety of hot and iced beverages and sandwiches complete with vegan options.

2. Thinking Cup
If you haven’t stopped by the Thinking Cup yet, you’ve certainly walked by it a number of times. With locations in the North End, on Newbury Street, and right on Tremont, the Thinking Cup is a reachable and delicious place to stop for a couple hours of coffee and studying. Along with their coffee and tea options, they also serve sandwiches (I recommend the grilled cheese) and tons of different pastries.

3. Flour Bakery & Cafe
With Instagram-worthy sticky buns and to-die-for coconut macaroons, Flour is the ideal spot for someone with a sweet tooth. Flour also offers great sandwiches, services, and endless coffee (free refills!). Perfect for a quick drink before class or a lengthy breakfast on Sunday morning!

4. Boston Common Coffee Company
Like the Thinking Cup, Boston Common Coffee Company (or BoCoCoCo, as some of us laughingly call it), is right around the corner. Perfect for meeting up with friends, colleagues, or professors, Boston Common is complete with stools, comfy couches, and great food and drinks. With a myriad of baked goods, lots of lunch options, and tons of different coffee beans, you’re bound to find something you love.

5. Polcari’s Coffee
Find yourself in the North End needing a little pick-me-up? Head to Polcari’s. it’s a great place for not only coffee, but candy, spices, and loose leaf tea – things that aren’t typical to other Boston coffee shops. As a hole-in-the-wall shop, it has lots of charm and excellent service.

6. Blunch
The name’s a little odd, but the food is fantastic! Blunch, located in the South End, is a great stop for a hot drink or some tasty breakfast or lunch. Some call it one of Boston’s best-kept secret – especially it’s famously delicious chocolate chip cookies!

Finding yourself chilly, bored, and/or in need of a midday pick-me-up? Head to one of our favorite Boston coffee shops for a relaxing time and a cup of joe!
