5 Ways to Curb Sugar Cravings

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

After a candy-filled holiday like Easter, it can be hard to wind down from eating sugar. But if you want to get that beach body before summer, you might have to make some changes to your eating habits! Lucky for you, we’ve got a few tips for kicking your sugar cravings.

1. Detox

Just like with coffee or cigarettes, it’s very easy to become addicted to sugar without even knowing it. If your body is used to sweets, it can be hard to go without them. Try detoxing from sugar by going without sweets for ten days. This will subside your cravings and keep you from indulging too often.

2. Substitute

We know apples aren’t the same as a bar of chocolate, but try to substitute when you can. Instead of reaching for a candy bar, try eating a few berries instead! Substituting healthier foods for your sugary cravings can save you a ton of calories.

3. Stay full

It’s easy to overindulge when you’re hungry, so try to avoid the cravings by staying full. Eat a small meal or snack every few hours so you’re never running on empty.

4. Drink water

Not only does water keep your body hydrated and your skin clear, but it can help curb those cravings as well! Many cravings are based on your body’s need for different nutrients, and water helps you extract those nutrients from food. Without enough water, you’ll continue to crave foods.

5. Indulge carefully

It doesn’t hurt to indulge a little here and there. As long as you don’t go crazy, eating high-sugar snacks won’t hurt you. Feel free to indulge here and there, but choose wisely! Pick snacks that will curb your cravings, and consider healthier options, like dark chocolate instead of milk.

Next time you reach for that chocolate, try to curb that craving! Use these tools to kick those cravings and make healthier choices.
