5 Things to Love About Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

As someone who loves winter, I find it hard to believe there are people out there that genuinely hate it.  I guess the New Englander in me propels my appreciation for the cold. If you prefer summer over winter and dread the colder months, here are some cute winter things that’ll help you fall in love with the season.

1.) The cold air gives you an appreciation for the warmer times of the year

I mean, contrary to popular opinion, I love the cold, but if you’re someone who loves the warmer months, you know that winter makes you love the heat even more.  While you sit inside wishing it was summer, remember that you probably wouldn’t love summer as much as you do if it wasn’t for the chilly air outside.

2.) Hot Chocolate

If you don’t like hot chocolate, substitute this with any other hot beverage of your choice.  You can’t realistically enjoy a nice hot beverage when it’s 90 degrees outside with 95% humidity.  I won’t believe that, so just sit back under a blanket and enjoy that beverage. You earned it for putting up with the cold weather.

3.) Snow

You’re going to tell me that little white fluffs floating down from the sky doesn’t spark the little kid in you?  You’re going to tell me that snow isn’t one of the most peaceful forms of weather? Granted, yeah, blizzards aren’t that peaceful, but if it’s just floating down while you watch it through the window, it is really pretty and you can’t argue that at all.  Even if you have to shovel it, nothing beats watching snow fall while watching holiday movies and drinking the aforementioned hot beverage.

4.) Warm Sweaters and fuzzy socks

If you don’t love fuzzy socks, I’m concerned for your wellbeing.  Have you actually worn fuzzy socks? If so, how can you dislike them?  They’re like little sweaters for your feet and they keep you nice and toasty during those rough winter months.  Also, speaking of sweaters, if you don’t love curling up in an oversized sweater or sweatshirt, I’m not sure anyone can help you see the true beauty of winter.  The best feeling in the world is getting cozy under a blanket in that sweatshirt that’s 3 sizes too big for you and a pair of fuzzy socks. You can sit near a window and watch the snow fall, and hey, even bring that hot beverage and a good movie along.

5.) Winter Activities

Okay, so all of that other stuff is great, but they all involve staying inside!  Winter is a time to have fun and enjoy it while it lasts. You don’t get to channel your inner kid as much as you do in the winter, so pretend its a snow day and go make some snow angels!  You could also have a snowball fight with your friends, build a snow sculpture, or even go ice skating! There are so many fun things you can do (And, BONUS, you can even wear your sweaters and fuzzy socks to do them)!
