5 Most Popular New Year’s Resolutions of 2015

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

With every new year comes many personal promises that may or not be kept throughout the next 365 days. These promises, aka New Year’s Resolutions, keep us going at least through the first part of the new year. Here are the 5 most popular 2015 New Year’s Resolutions that we’re all trying to keep:

1. Eat Healthier

It should come as no surprise that everyone is trying to be healthier this year. It’s always one of those resolutions that seems doable at first but always gets harder as time goes on. It’s especially hard as a college student to eat well when there are cookies, ice cream, and bagels to be taken from the dining hall or Einstein’s at any time! To kick the habit of eating junk food, make sure only healthy food is readily available to you. Invest in a fridge and try to keep fruit and ready-to-eat veggies in it.

2. Exercise More

Exercising is another big resolution for millions of people every year. While thinking about exercising isn’t so bad, mustering up the energy to head to the gym when it’s 10 degrees outside is. To increase your likelihood of going to the gym during your busy week, set aside certain time periods that you know you’ll have free and dedicate those to the gym. Following fitness accounts on Instagram and Twitter will also help to remind you to go to the gym, even when you don’t feel like it.

3. Stress Less

Making a promise to yourself to stay less stressed for the year may be one of the most beneficial ways to be successful in 2015. By reducing stress, you will be maximizing your happiness, and when dealing with school, internships, and part-time jobs, who doesn’t want to be stress-free? Yoga and meditation have been gaining a lot of popularity, especially with young people, when it comes to managing stress, so maybe it’s time to add “taking yoga classes” to your own personal list of New Year’s Resolutions this year.

4. Become More Eco-Friendly

Luckily, over the past few years it has been getting easier and easier to go green. As a result of climate change movements becoming prevalent on social media and through different news outlets, like the Climate Change March that took place in the fall, many more people are being introduced to the immediacy of these issues. By recycling daily, decreasing your use of plastic products, and educating yourself on current climate change initiatives, you can help make a difference in our planet’s future.

5. Volunteer

When looking at the new year as a fresh start, you may be inclined to do more good deeds and help others. Finding local organizations that need volunteers might seem like a daunting task, but it’s actually a lot easier than one may think. Take a look at Boston Volunteers and you are sure to find a cause that makes you want to go out and help people!
